Maybe I'll just start from the top and do my harsh judging and get prepared for the situation where "Afterall" rips out my heart and feeds it to the lions:

Tranquility Bass: Hmm... No reverb? Drums are maybe a bit too weak for this track. Not enough bass on the bass drum and the rest of the drums sound thin. That break is nice. This really needs better drums and little bit reverb.

Sonaris: Ok production. Again those thin 909 drums. Me no like. Sounds like 8-bit 22kHz samples. Predictable. No good.

Venera II: Argh! Those drums again! Do something! Trance, trance and more trance. Supersaws and 909. I could bet that I'll hear 303 soon. Hmm... That low bass sounds bit a 303'ish.

New World Order: Ngghhh... Must... not... listen to the drums... No wait. They're a bit brighter on this one! And I start to feel sick when I hear Bush talking. This sounds a bit better than the first ones I listened to. One more time Bush saying "evil" and I'll die. Evil my arse! Hey! Your drum politics has improved well! Hmm... Why does this track remind me of some tracker made trance tracks? Of course this has better quality but some of the classic tracker techniques are used like gate chopper. Ok track.

Low Intensity Operations: This is nice atmospheric track. Very good. I like this one!

No Answer: Nice intro. Good oppressive atmosphere. Good! This reminds me of Pi's soundtrack.

Intra-ference: These songs are getting better and better! Very much alike No Answer.

Damn this download is slow.

Afterall: Now it starts... More like space rock. Ozric Tentacles again. Nice guitar and vocals (I can't quite catch the lyrics). This is 100% Ozrics. I liked this one. No lions needed.

listening to tranquility b@ss now.

i really like the atmospheric sound at the start! actually all the sounds at the start really..

once the track settles down, it has a cool groove - specially like the bass-line in there...

im not usually a big fan of this type of music, but this track is really easy to listen to.

the section at about 4 mins 40 sec was excellent! great cool down...i really like the lead sound here.....this bit definately makes the track...it shows charatcure that seems to be lacking in alot of trance...

now to my gripe....the drums seem a little life-less...a bit too straight forward...the bass drum doesnt have the punch id expect in a tune like this...maybe layering another bass drum or 2 with seperate compression and eq-ing would punch it up a bit! also the high pecussion didnt really do it for me either.

all the sounds and compostion are excellent! ive heard much worse tracks in clubs. buil up the drums a bit more and this would be one cool track!

Thanks for listening to Tranquility B@ss Hollow :D and I'm glad you liked it (in the main).

I really appreciate your comments and observations.

You're totally right, my drum programming (and my use of so-so sounds) does expose a certain laziness of mine in that department  . As I was saying to Juho in my original response to him (before the server rudely deleted on Monday 8O ), I can spend literally hours programming and arranging just one synth sound and then, in my rush to get it all together, I tend to slap down the drums and never properly revisit them - which is a new discipline I'm going to have to look into.

I've also susbequently decided only to use pure synth generated drum sounds rather than the sample & synthesis approach so far. I've always thought that S&S was kind of cheating, anyway ! :D

What do you guys use for your drum parts ? Is Novation Drum Station any good or do you use up some of the Virus multi slots with drum sounds ?
