It's recomended in the manual that you should do this every 3 to 4 years. Anyone that really cares about this? Isn't the battery charged every time you power the Virus up?

I think not. The battery is off-line when Virus is powered. When the power is off the battery supplies the memory. The current the memory needs is so small that the battery will probably last years, but better safe than sorry.
Edit: And remember that if/when you change the memory the memory will be reseted.

Hmm. Maybe there's no idea to own to many synths then? You'll just get a hell of a job switching batteries all the time I guess... Or maybe I should quit VA and go pure analogue. Maybe batteries are a bit cheaper though.

That battery issue is just a precaution. That battery will probably last much longer than 3-4 years but by changing the battery you avoid "Oops, there went all my user patches" situations.
