Well my japanese has improved a little lately, so I thought I'd check out the japanese only auction sites.

Well...Today my first purchase arrived - an Alpha Juno 2 that I bought for the sum of 70euro/9250yen! Good bargin considering it's cheaper than sending my Alpha Juno 1 from Ausi to Japan.

I have never seen so much vintage gear for sale in one place! At the moment I've got my eye on a couple of sh09s (one with a case and instruction manual), 2 seperate sh2s (one missing a few slider caps, but it hasn't gotten over the 3000yen mark yet), a tape echo (just because it's so cheap) and a sh101 (that looks new, but no one has bid yet)...That's without mentioning the various junos and the sh3As - or anything other than Roland! 8O

So far everybody selling will not ship outside Japan - lucky for me I guess! :D

I've tried sharing my amazement with my wife, but she just doesn't understand why I'm happy about a synth made in 1979 selling for cheaper than I could take a family out to dinner here in Japan.

Wish me luck guys!

yep, very similar....they do have ebay too though...

id forgoten how much i missed the Ajuno1 still in ausi!

luckily i can still program patches using the patch editor i used for the juno1....ive spent most of the day programming patches!

i really hope i can pick up a good sh09! some gutsy raw bass will be really cool!

EDIT: i just decided to check the auction site again and a SH1 has just shown up for sale! 8O rare little number this one - if anyone wants to get into collecting that is....

No chance to get it sold (unless there's a rich collector). Moog Modular might be that expensive, but not that Roland modular. You could even get Hammond B3 with original leslie with that price.

not that you guys probably care too much, but i thought id show u my latest purchase from the auctions....

its a cs-10 from yamaha...cost me 81euro...there were 2 other cs-10s too...one went for about 50 euro and the other went for about 65 euro....both of those looked a bit dirty (plus a little rust around the plugs) and neither had the hard case or anything...i decided to go for this one instead....

http://home.ripway.com/2004-1/51095/gonyama2000-img600x380-1075873789cs103.jpg

i havent received this one yet (bidding finished late last night)...but judging from the pics its clean and tidy! the guy said its working perfectly with no noisy pots or anything....

hey juho, have you received any of your stuff yet? what do u think of it (if u have)?

the prices are amazing
i saw one for 600 dollars couple of days ago here
whats the prices on jupiter 6\8 ?

Hollowcell
12.02.2004, 06:23 AM
yeh the prices are pretty good for sure. :D

ive only seen 1 jupiter 8, and i dont know what it went for because the auction closed early...the jupiters dont seem to show up so often...

usually when auctions close early it means someone has made an offer outside the auction itself...if the person who makes an offer is trusted and the offer is good enough, people will close thier auctions...

i dont have heaps of cash at the moment, but i wish i did! ive been missing out on stuff that i know i could sell back home for double what i pay here......

sometimes though a frenzy will occur, then prices go high (still cheaper than everywhere else ive seen)....but still quite high...

yesterday a rough looking sh-101 went for 22000yen - missing an adapter and wasnt fully tested!....but then last week a good looking 101 that was missing a batery cover (that was fully tested) went for 5500yen!!!!! (5500yen is about 40 euro or so)....i missed it coz i was bidding on 3 different synths at the same time....

God i wish i could read japanese

Id love to have a 101!!!!

By the way never had the chance to have a go on a 202 but what are the main diffrences between the 2o2 and the 101?

Hollowcell
12.02.2004, 06:49 AM
i've never had the chance to play around on a 202 either...but ive listened to some samples of it here
http://www.vintagesynth.org/
sounds bloody excellent...they say its a mix between a tb303 and a sh101...all the spec differences are at this site too...

id choose a sh101 over the mc202 anyday though....instant playability using the keys....

but i tell u what though, if i see a 202 on there for cheap ill grab it....i know people who will buy them up quick at home!

Mate if you ever see another 101 on there drop a post on here us im well for getting one!!

Im sick of using other synths to recreate that 101 style bass as you always have to add shit loads of pluginns to get anything near it!!

just an update on the CS-10 pictured above - it came today!

perfect condition, knobs feel like new, keyboard is very resonsive, the thing has hardly been used! even the space visible between the sliders has no dust at all. as for the sound - all i can say is im really really happy! (to put it lightly).

lovesit - there are 3 SH-101s on there right now, but no one on this site will ship over-seas. honestly, im not too keen on bidding for other people either.

i will be picking up any bargins i can though. maybe in the future i will sell a couple on, but at the moment i dont have enough cash to buy things just to sell again. ill keep you posted.

I have researched the Mc202 and sh101 and from what i found out was that the MC 202 is really just a rack version to the sh101...and from what i hear they really sound no different from each other....its just whether u want a sequencer or keyboard...Hey Hollow how much is it to ship from Japan to california...and would u be willing to arrange something with say me?

peace

apparently there is a little difference with the filter arcitechture between the 101 and 202 (not from such a reliable source though).

actually a 202 popped up yesterday. it has a problem with the decay and sustain sliders, plus some sicky pots. at the moment its 3500yen. if it doesnt go much higher im gunna pick it up - just in case i can fix it.

as i said earlier, im not real keen on bidding for other people, as there is a risk with stuff not working properly and the like. i will be buying bargins though! if i stock up and wanna sell up, the place ill advertise is here.

i was playing around with the CS-10 today and i decided to record some sounds so u guys could take a listen. all were played live with no sequencing, so excuse the playing...

go here
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/hollowcell.htm

and play the CS-10 mp3....hi-fi for best results of course...

in some of the sounds you will be able to hear 2 filters - with these sounds i recorded live to the sampler, then i ran the sample back through the CS-10 with the filter in a different mode. all of the sounds only have the one osc running by the way. even when i ran a sound back into the CS from the sampler, i didnt use the sound to re-trigger the osc - only the filter.

most of the sounds do have some effects on, although i ran the effects quite dry....

anyway take a listen. i think it sounds pretty good for just one osc! i spose at 81euro too, i cant really complain either.

Tomer=Trance

most of the 70's old school synths had only 1 oscilator
it sounds realy fat.... i would have done the same if it was offered to me at that price
i would even pay more for such a vintage

Hollowcell

i was playing around again last night...

this time i recorded a synth line into the sampler again, but then i triggered the sampler from an appegiator. i ran the sample thru the CS-10 again, but this time i let the sample trigger the osc as well....FFFAAATTTT! 8O

when i get some time later ill make a recording and put it online.

by the way, sorry for the lower than usual quality of the mp3s above...i didnt really spend alot of time mastering them or anything

ok i got some time and its online...go here and look for CS-10 appegiator.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/hollowcell.htm

unfortunately i couldnt get it as chunky as yesterday, but i came close...crank the volume up though, because i didnt compress the file so much to keep some dynamic range.
