View Full Version : Strange MIDI behaviour

My Midisport 4x4 is acting strangely. I just upgraded my studio and found myself in middle of MIDI inferno. I'm not sure is the problem in Midisport or somewhere else.

Anyway the problem is simply this:
1. Cubase doesn't receive MIDI, but transmits.
2. One freeware mouse keyboard software receives and transmits MIDI, but gets mad after a while (probably a bug in that program)
3. Nord Modular editor can't even open a MIDI port.
4. NI Kontakt doesn't receive MIDI at all.
5. The LED's blink correctly on the MIDI box, so the HW sohuld work.

Any idea what is wrong?

are you trying to run the modular editing software at the same time as cubase?

Nope. Even individually the programs don't work. It's really strange that sometimes Modular editor opens up a port and works fine for a while but then looses the connection again.

Does anyone know good simple and non-buggy program to test out MIDI? Just a program that has some sort of virtual LED's for MIDI IO or something.

maybe installing new software (nord editor) has caused a problem for the your midi software that was already installed.

have you tried re-installing the midi-sport?

does the midi-sport have the only midi ins/outs to your computer?

That's just not possible since the editor software doesn't touch registry or add any files into system folder. I installed it on my primary XP and it worked fine in studio XP so it doesn't touch the system settings at all.

This problem doesn't seem a software problem because every bloody program has trouble.

have you tried re-installing the midi-sport?

Of course.

does the midi-sport have the only midi ins/outs to your computer?

Yes.

I had a problem with my nord modular not being recognised by the software editor because I had installed midiyoke. Dont ask me why it didnt work with this but it solved the problems when midiyoke was removed.

Perhaps you`ve got something similar installed.

Any way here is a search engine for modular patches:

http://pch.zevv.nl/index.php

I also have a patch pack spreading over many spectrums. If you need them just say and I`ll send them over.

But the strangest thing is that sometimes it works for a while and then it looses the connection again. I'm getting really suspicious that my MIDI interface is broken. I have completely clean Windows as studio OS. Just all the neccessary Windows parts and music software (sequencer + plugins and editor softwares). That's what makes the situation really strange. When I'll get back from analysis demos I'll try to sort out the problem and maybe Midiman support has already answered my mail.

Hah! Real men make their own patches. I've never used presets and I never will. That's a principle.

HaHa.

I have nord lead factory presets converted over to modular format if you want those.

Thanks. I tested it out and the whole problem got a new dimension. The Midisport only sends. It doesn't receive at all. Bloody machine! It's probably broken. Arrgh!

My MOTU MicroLite was playing up and turned out that it was not recieving enough power, as it was running from a USB hub, so I had to go straight into the computer......I also downloaded the latest drivers for the MIDI Interface, and re-installed all software......eventually all problems were fixed.

IMO it will all sort itself out eventually....MIDI is a strange beast at times, and, like a woman, can be a little fiesty at certain times of the month.

Hope you work it out!

I forgot to mention that the problem was solved easily. I just plugged in Midisport to the other USB-port. Really odd thing. There has to be trouble with the drivers because other USB devices work properly on both ports but Midisport works only on the first port.
