Since i'm still waiting for the new G5 models i did som research on a second drive for it. I found the western digital raptor wich had an impressive 10000rpm.... 8O so i wen't out and bought it :D
Anyways, since this S-ATA vs SCSI debate was roaming the forum about a year go, i though i would fuel the fire.

Do you guys think this drive is as fast as the scsi ones or is it slower??? I think it will do just fine but i'm curius.

Define fast.

Its an insanely zippy SATA drive for what it is. I was considering getting one, but seeing as my motherboard is stuffed (blown capacitors), I'm going to go spastic and buy the best performing drive for my new system. A 15k Maxtor SCSI drive, 18gb. Perfect for a system/scratch drive. And I'll hang onto my four 120gb drives for longterm storage.

Hello Saba, i cant define fast...since i have no idea what fast is in these matters. I did find a few links with comparisions and in those links the raptor was much faster. I guess a ordinary 7200rpm would do, but since i found a 10000rpm disk i thought i'd use that instead. But as i said i know shit about this thats why im asking.

It really depends on what you are searching for in a drive. Do you want zippy response, great sequential reads/writes, or ability to perform under heavy I/O requests.

Stuff like that should be on your checklist for what sort of system do you want.

However, that given, the Raptors are pretty damn nice. If only they made a 15k version, ho ho.
