View Full Version : Applying effects to tracks in Cubase

Hi, hopefully someone can help,

At the moment I'm using NI Battery on 1 track in Cubase for all my percussion. The thing is, I'm not sure if I'm working in the right way at the moment.

I get some beats going and then record the each instrument into separate Audio tracks in Cubase where I can then apply all the effects.

At the end of it though if I don't like what's recorded though I have to record it again into an Audio track and then go through applying the effects all over again.

It seems a bit time-consuming. Is there an easier way to apply loads of effects to individual instruments in Battery before it's recorded to audio?

Ta

Can't you just switch outputs of cells? At least I believe Battery has multiple outputs.

You can indeed assign to different outs - Battery has 8

I use FXfreeze a lot on such things as well

This assigning the output of cells is what I need to do but I think I need a simple explanation of how to do it and how I assign a particular cell to a DX effect.

The thing is, when I'm working in Battery at the moment, I'm only using the 4 master effects in Cubase and don't know how to access loads of them as is the case when you are working with an audio track.

Time to check the manual... ?hih.

Just assing selected cells to different tracks and add effects to those tracks. For example kick on track 1 with hard compressor and EQ, snare on track 2 with some reverb, hats on track 3 with some chorus and reverb, etc.

Master effects? Good grief man! Use track effects. I'd also advice that you add master effects in a sepperate program like in SoundForge and remember to use reverbs as sends so that you can manage with one reverb insted of billion reverbs.

But I use Battery on a MIDI track and it doesn't seem to offer me the option to apply effects on an individual MIDI track as an audio track does.

So I change the MIDI channel on a cell in Battery to whatever channel and then what? Is it an audio track with nothing on it that I need to assign it to?

Confused!!! :?

I think I'll go to shout outside soon. Hoho.

You have audio outputs of Battery in the mixer. Don't fiddle with MIDI tracks. MIDI is MIDI. Let it be.

You don't change MIDI track, you change the output.

Nowt to do with MIDI channels.

Once a cell is selected there is an option to assign to different outs.

If you look at the Cubase SX / SL mixer you will notice that there are 8 outs for Battery. When you select a cell and assign it to a different output you can see on the mixer the newly assigned sound comes out on the new channel.

As Juho explains it is all in the manual.
