Yo,

I need a MIDI controller for use with a Virus Rack Classic..

Im not sure if I need Relative 360 degree encoders or normal ones. The Relative encoders on the Rack are buggy so I need knobs.

How many knobs should I need for the main parameters?

Should I get Relative Knobs!!! If so is there a way to display the absolute setting on the face of the Virus or on a Led Screen on the MIDI Controller its self?

I need to be able to Grab a knob whilst life (eg: Effect Send Amt) and tweak it without it reseting to the knobs absolute value before I tweak it (hence I think I need Relative encoder knobs simular to the ones on the rack)

Im going to do some research now, but if there is anyone with some clues, tips, pointers, suggestions please give a bit shout

Peace,
jake

Looks interesting.......

There are SOOoooooo many MIDI controllers out there.....And I knew nothing when I bought mine. I have the Virus Rack XL, and I bought an Edirol PCR-50 (made by Roland I think?) and to be honest, I dont really use it for tweaking, only for playing notes etc. My virus is racked up and sits nicely right near my left knee, so I can reach down and tweak the front knobs if I need to. Other than that, when I am sound designing, I mainly use Sound Diver and do all my tweaking via Sound Diver software on my screen. Awesome!

Did you say it was for LIVE???? Maybe then it is quite important to choose a high quality MIDI control. Dont settle for cheapo stuff, cos it will probably just break.

Good luck,

Jase

Nice one.. That Behreinger looks the goods... I didn't even know that existed....I was considering a Fatboy or Kenton Control freak but I wasn't sure if it had continious rotarys'... Im gonna try find that Behringer in my local music store...

I don't really want the Keyboard part at all... just knobs... For controlling and MIXING... I am trying to get a DUBish production method with MPC & VIRUS and composing the song with mutes, delays, feedback in the studio then do it live aswell so I need serious hands on features......I am also looking at getting a TC electronics D-TWO which I would like to control as well as a EMU module if I can afford one..

Any other suggestions???? High Quality Chunky Easy to grip knobs are important!!!

Peace,
(props to the guys downunder for their posts)

Problem is,

Is the BCR2000 going to be able to control my VIRUS RACK with incremental knob changes???

I don't want to touch the knob and throw the filter cuttoff way out !! I would rather turn the knob and increase the paramater on my patch incrementally...

ANYONE WITH ANY EXPERIENCE IN THIS? PLEASE SHOUT, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR WITH SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE?
