Electribe ER-II

Anyone got one? Looks like a handy drum synth, plus it has buttons for me to play with.

If I get my hands on a KC (be still, my precious, for the hour is nigh) and a drum machine I should have the core components to create (low-fi) tracks.

I have a simple 2-channel mixer and Cool Edit Pro 2 running on my laptop.

I don't expect great results, just sound recorded!

I think you would be better off buying something like Reason, or BFD if you are just looking for drums. And then maybe a couple of sample/loop CD's......From what I can tell, these electribe things are not that great. I think they are trying to compete with the Roland Groove box type device.

And why Lo-Fi??? Aim a bit higher.....you will just waste money and need to upgrade later.....And a KC is certainly capable of a lot more than just Lo-Fi. I reckon go for a Cubase/Reason package (or similar). Combine that with the KC, and THEN you have a decent package capable of creating very good music (depending on your commitment and dedication).

Sorry, didn't make myself too clear.

Once I've got my KC I'm not going to have enough money to splash out on a proper Music dedicated PC. That's further down the list. For now I can just wire my audio sources into my laptop and sequence them as wave files. My laptop's onboard sound won't be great- that's why I'm expecting the quality to be average at best.

As I already have a PC / cheap mixer, I can use these 'low-fi' bits for now, then upgrade later.

I didn't mean the KC was low fi!! 8O

Maybe if I get another job soon when I go to Uni I'll have the cash for a music PC as well!

Then the tunes will be coming.

Thanks for the shout on Reason, I've used the demo but the fact that it shuts down after 15 minutes means you can't realy appreciate what it can/can't do.

What kind of music are you going to be making? Mainly dance/electronica based stuff??

The music you are making should narrow down what kind of device/software you should be looking for in terms of creating drum loops etc

Im sure there are lots of things out there similar to the electribe....but I guess that the electribes are quite low in price at the moment, so it seems like too good a deal to pass up. I was about to get the electribe EA-1...as it was US$199......but then my logic kicked in and I asked myself, "Why are you buying this Korg Electribe when you have a Virus C?". Seemed like a dumb thing for me to do.

Im sure there are some users here that have the ER-1......they will tell you how they sound. Also try "Harmony-Central" for reviews....and ZZ-Sounds. I sometimes find their user reviews section handy.

Never been a big fan of the Electribe boxes myself - doesn't mean they are no good though, just not my style.

I kinda agree with Jase. Maybe a sampler of some description would suit what you want to do better - I wouldn't be chosing Reason for that though.

Hi.... I own the "old" ones too- the ER1 and EA1.

I used them alot in the beginning, but now they are rarely used. Today I find them more unprofessional than I used to before, but I guess thats the way it goes...

We all starts out with cheap equipmetn I guess and then getting more and more pro over time... :)

But I havnt said that aint good or cant be used, but I cant find them that useful and I would waste my money if I bought those I think....

I own the ER-1. It?s mostly usefull for electro/minimal kind of stuff. It?s no good for trance and techno. For trance/techno I would prefer EM-1. I have one of those in my kit too. It sounds more professional and has loads of features the ER hasn?t. With some practice you can get really nice drums out of it. And it?s usefull for a lot of things and styles. For example drum & bass and industrial. Really wicked machine. It?s underrated I think. But without any other equipment I would go software style if I were you.
