View Full Version : Snap, crackle and pop

I've come upon a problem that I can't seem to solve.
I sometimes get loud pop-sounds from my Indigo 2 when playing it.

I have made a few soundclips so you can hear what I'm talking about:
The first soundclip is the sequence with three instruments playing (kick, bass and a synthsound).

The next sound is where I've turned the synthsound down on my mixer (it is therefore still being processed in the Virus)

The third and fourth are just so you can hear the distinct sounds:

The clicks are NOT coming from the mixer.

As you can hear, there is nothing wrong with neither the synthsound nor the kickNBass when playing either one alone.
Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong? The Kick and bass are sent through another output than the synthsound.

I belive it is more the kick-channel than the bass-channel that delivers the clicking noises.

I looked at the preivous posts on this subject inhere, but they all stated that this issue was solved in an OS-update. I'm running 6.5...

Thanks for the reply :)

I think I already tried messing with the amp-attack, since it was mentioned in one of the other threads on this board I think. But I will most certainly doublecheck tomorrow and let you know the result :)

Ok, I have not solved the problem completely, but it seemed to help when I turned down amp-release. The problem still percist with other sounds though.

Does anyone know if the Virus has a problem with handling too many bass-type (or at least low pitched) sounds at a time?

No, but if you layer enough in multi-mode voices sure get thin.

If you play around enough you should be able to get rid of most the "popping" sounds you are talking about. Amp and Filter release/attack are good places to start.

I just talked with a friend of mine who gave me some pointers.

So, now I know what unison-mode is :D

It seems that I was on the edge of running out of polyphony as one of my voices had unison 4. Also the amp-release on the synthvoice in my 'preview' had some problems. Only trouble is, that with it reduced, the sound is almost 'immune' to the modulations I use upon it in the rest of the track.

But I'll work that out later.

Thanks for your replies guys :)
