Besides adding great convergence and synth engine features, Total Integration is built around a major hardware platform upgrade, sporting a complete redesign inside and out.

A large white graphic display shows multiple parameters at the same time which can be edited using three Soft Knobs. Keyboard models feature an illuminated logo on the I/O panel (it looks great, and even pulses in sync with the tempo for other musicians or the audience to enjoy).

Also new in the hardware, a Tap Tempo button helps live VIRUS musicians stay in sync with drummers and turntablists using a sophisticated algorithm based on Access? SyncXtreme technology.

HOW IS IT ALL POSSIBLE?

Inside, a new Dual-DSP core delivers stellar performance with super-low latency. TI also employs studio-grade converters with 192 Khz/24-bit D/A. These are paired with +4 dB balanced inputs and outputs and a switchable ??soft limiting?? algorithm, and accompanied by S/PDIF digital stereo output and input as well. The onboard USB port is compatible with USB 2 specifications and works with USB and Hi-Speed USB devices and peripherals. For easy access to all these new jacks, the entire I/O panel of the TI desktop model can be rotated 90 degrees so the interface is on the rear panel. There's been alot of talk about this over at harmonycentral. I did notice just the other day when I was doing a reserach on eBay for Access gear, a Virus Indido II appeared being sold my Matt Picone? In case you didn't know he's one of the sound designers for the Access team. The ebay link is below.

Now I thought at first why would he sell it? Could it indicate a new synth is very close and he's in line to receive it to start developing pre-sets for NAMM 2005 (jan 20-23) show? Maybe so, then there would be no reason for him to keep the Indigo II and auction it off now at a higher price before the Ti is officially announced. I'd auction mine off too...but I got a Redback :D

Wheter hoax or not, this kind of total integration is the right way to go for hardware epuipment.

Compared to plug-ins, hardware synths are currently a big hassle to work with in terms of recalling the settings from song to song, having the song play correctly after some time, selecting patches/editing the multi and archiving patches. And in most cases all this needs to be done for a number of outside equipment per song, not just one synth. How many editors would one like to open in parallel to an overloaded sequencer? I for instance have to open one for the Virus, one for the Motif Rack and one for TR-Rack. I'd need a video wall to see them all at once, plus Cubase doesn't like to loose focus all the time.

The way integration is described above, it reminds TC Powercore combined with an outside audio/midi interface, so it must be feasible.

Anyone who wrote the specs, be it Access or a regular user like us, really understands where music tech goes and proposes something that is both feasible and needs to be done to compete to the ever better sounding plug-ins.

As far as the new sound engine is concerned, having 16 single sounds would of course be awesome, but this maybe the biggest hint for a hoax, as 16 delay/reverbs do need a lot of power and RAM. Add to these fx 80+ poly and you have something way beyond today's standards...

Time will tell!

AFAIK, the Novation Supernova II had delay/'verb effects available on each and every part. That was back in 2000. Admittedly, though, the Supernova II had, I think, just 8-part multi-timbrality, as opposed to the TI's alleged 80! lol

80-note poly would go down well, though. You could start to use the Virus as a serious "workstation"-type VA synth in the context, with numerous multi-timbral layered unison pads, leads - you name it - all together. All you'd need now was an onboard sequencer.

I don't think it takes any CPU. It has loads of improvements like a dedicated delay/reverb for every track plus the huge polyphony.

It's quite hard to say anything about the specs at this point. We'll just have to wait for the complete specs sheet to appear on the Access' site.
