View Full Version : WTF? Preorder price jumps $300 in US?

mcoyote

I pre-orderd my desktop TI unit a few days ago for approx. $1600. As of, what -- yesterday? -- the prices at places like sweetwater, samedaymusic, etc. have all jumped to $1900 (more or less). What do you supposed happend, and why did they all jump at once?

(...I hope the vendor honors my preorder price...)

blay
23.11.2004, 05:25 AM
if you placed a deposit and agreed upon a price then they must honour their quote. (or never do business with them again!)

im sure if you contact these suppliers the units will still be avail at the original price - they are just trying to sucker a little bit more money out of us (because they can).

also - if they display a high price it makes them look like good guys when they drop a couple of hundred off (when really the discount takes the price back to the orig quote!)

First off, welcome to the forum! :D

I agree with Blay. If you pre-ordered at a price and they suddenly decide to up the price that isn't not good business at all.

Not sure what happened with the price jumps though. Maybe they have had more interest than they anticipated.

hmm didnt really consider the possibility that there are only so many units available in the inaugarul shipment.....

i wonder just how many access have made of each model for initial release?

I reckon Access are pretty switched on, and would have prepared sufficiently for all of the interest.....

Heck, there has been alot of hype and conspiracies (Mainly originating from HC) going on about a new Access for some time now.....They know they got us practically willing to sell our own mothers for this synth

For sure! -

You know, we swedes do enjoy our casual look on sex and polar bears on the streets.

Nah, but i wouldnt be suprised to see one now, since the weather has been really cold around here now and snowing like hell aswell (not hell then - choose a more proper word for that) ->

My tree on the backside of this apartment cracked last night because of all the snow - so i gotta remove that (just because i wanna go totally off topic)

Exactly like me then..

Speaking of which, i remember when i was younger and tried to steal a monkey from Skansen (a Zoo located in the middle of Stockholm). Those small monkeys that are in the size of a thumb.

I'd like to have my own zoo (don't get any ideas)

Sheesh...relax. My CC company (MBNA) calls it "ShopSafe". They let you generate a card number/exp/CVC2 from their website mapped to your account that (a) works with only one vendor and, (b) has a limited life span. This way, if the vendor's db gets snatched the info won't be useful for anyone else.

All I was complaining about was that the number I generated is only good for so long (four months), and if there is a significant delay in delivery it might expire. Don't worry -- I'm in debt like everyone else, and everybody gets paid.

(...and if the reader expended the energy to search for "temporary credit card numbers" on google, they'd get something like this: http://www.google.com/search?q=temporary+credit+card+numbers ...)

Back to the topic, anyone heard of MAP?

Here's Audiomidi.com take on the price jump
What is MAP? Some manufacturers impose a Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy on their authorized dealers that limit them from advertising their on-line price below MAP. Bottom line, more often than not, there is a better price than the MAP.

Their desktop price of the TI is 1,895.00
My pre-order with them was 1,595.00
I suspect the MAP is the extra money here, what do you guys think?

Looks like the prices have been raised. Wonder if it has anything to do with the weak dollar or increased demand? I think that extra $300 makes a big difference. But I guess most wont care because if you want one you're going to pay. I know I would. I'm just not as eager now.

well not that obvious - a lot of people order from foreign suppliers...

prices are comparable (for release price).

in the past couple of days there has been a lot of complaining on the access mailing list about the fact that the ti only incorporates usb1.1 speed rather than highspeed usb2 transfer rates....

its a usb issue is valid point to make, but i do wonder just how many of these people that are complaining are people that cant afford to get one

I can get a good price around here. I'll just threaten to buy it from Germany and I'll get it for the real price without the air.

if highspeed usb was implemented there would be a considerable difference to the amount of individual channels that could be sent to your sequencer to allow for individual processing.

No orders from Germany. Finnish music stores have started to compete with Thomann. The price tags are bit higher than in Thomann, but when you ask for a lower price and say the magic workd "Thomann", you usually get the product cheaper than Thomann price+shipping and what's best: If the product is faulty, you don't have to send it to Germany.

3o3
11.12.2004, 11:40 AM
Yah, I know what you mean. It's almost the same here - but still alot of different products still are alot cheaper in Germany than in Sweden.

And one usually gets the product alot faster than if i order something from a musicstore in Gothenburg. It's sick. But i don't complain - as long as i get the best price

Doc Eck
16.12.2004, 09:59 AM
There's no price for the TIs at Thomann right now, but 2 other big german music stores (www.musik-produktiv.de and www.musicstorekoeln.de) list them at 1699 Euros for the desktop and 2259 Euros for the Polar and keyboard versions.

American customers should not complain too much about prices jumping to $1900. Just remember that 1699 Euros is about $2275 right now...
