Why have MIDI in a synth that can't store patches?

I've been looking at a number of other traditional synths, in particular the Macbeth M3X. This has MIDI so that encourages you to use it with Logic / Cubase right? But you can't store patches so every time you go back into your sequencer project you have to dial the patch in again? Is this what owners of synths like the Macbeth do every time they go back into their project? What if the patch is particularly complex?

Alot of the older synths, had sheets where you would draw in the settings to remember them. I guess it is a tradeoff, fat analogue sound/a little more work.

Some older synths only have a few knobs that actually transmits midi data.

If every parameter is controlable by MIDI you could store your patches as a MIDI-file and play it back to the synth when you want that particular sound.

Hehe, i just bought a Sherman Filter Bank 2 and it has these sheets for copying and filling out in the last pages of the manual :lol: No memory = hard work 8)

Sounds like a bit of a ball ache to be honest. I think I'll keep my Ti order for the time being (especially after hearing the demo by Ben Crosland).

The MIDE-file thingy isn?t really bad when you get used to it. I actually do it sometimes with my virus when some of the factory patches i like needs at little extra tweak on some of the parameters 8) The tracks just start with a short dumb of controller info and there you go. Anyway, i would definetly buy the TI if i had waited another ? year with bying my Virus C.
