Hi all. Im thinking in cleaning my virusC and I wanted to take the knobs off to clean it thoroughly. Can I just pull them off like in most synths or are they glued to the board/pot in some way?

I'm asking because I was trying to pull off the osc vol knob and it sure seems resistant. I'm afraid to apply more strength in case they are fixed and I end up with a chunk of board in my hand.

Thanks for the answer.

Pull 'em off!

Honestly, they're not fixed, and thus they come off (and can be put back on) very easily.

Yep, they come off quite easily actually.

I got carried away with the cutoff knob and while reaching for another instrument I ripped it off while playing! 8O

Which got me thinking about Timo's idea a while back to customize the knobs a little. :D

mmm, sore point. Got them all designed properly and even received samples etc,! but the length of the shaft hole on the knob is just slightly too long (due to fixed dimensions of their machinery, so they couldn't follow my design measurements exactly), and consequently the knobs chafe slightly on the Virus fascia.

They let me know yesterday that they could get a machine part custom-made for the job to do it properly, but that I'd have to foot the cost at an extra $300....

.... Which is a bit steep! So it's back to the drawing board, d'oh!

I would't have the guts to be putting that much pressure on Virus knobs.

Gulp! Pulling them off... good god.

Honestly, they just slide off. And then slide back on again.

i think saba was referring to the fact that HC managed to remove one while playing

some knobs will become fairly sticky with time - i recently removed a knob on a kb and it certainly required a deep breath....

Slightly OT, I've now aquired a few new pots (many thanks to Achim of www.synthesizerservice.de !!) to replace a couple of wobbly pots on my Virus from the last owner. Got all the soldering equipment ready, now just trying to psyche myself up to actually do it sometime.... http://www.gobo.dsl.pipex.com/images/gremz/nubatch2/unsure.gif Will require many deep breaths, and three pairs of hands!! And a digital camera, of course.

When you're getting into it, you're getting into it - if you know what I mean. You should see the mod wheel and bender on the Nord - absolutely thrashed! :D Should say "worn in" rather than thrashed....

Knobs do come off the VC easily. The reason why it came off in my case was because I had it tilted on an angle though - I never put sideways presure on pots.

Bad luck Timo. Having the knobs rubbing is no way to go. Hope you figure something out.
