You knows guys...ive just about had enough. Im never going to buy gear from the second market again. Im now convinced that people sell 'mint' gear when its fucked in some way. Indeed, this would seem to be the case with the DX7 i had.
Im very disapointed right now. Any news on the TI guys? When's that fucker going to be released then?

The unit totally died on me.....but before it did it made one hell of a distorted sound....then bang. I didnt over power it....it just happened when i turned it on. I tested the unit at the guys house....it was fine. Might have been a power spike...but i use a surge protector on synths.
The unit wont power up now at all. If it was analog it could be fixable....but when it comes to digital hardware......repairs arent often possible. Im pretty depressed now.

That's horrible luck DS. I really hope something turns out mate. Are you sure it wasn't on some sort of power tranformer or something when you first looked at it.
Anyway mate. Hang in there!

Seems like a powerconverter breakdown. If it is you don?t have to worry about the actual synth parts. Maybe it?s just a fuse. By the way, powerconverters are always analog no matter how digital the synth is

Oh, by the way; you didn?t buy it from someone in the US or somewhere they have 110 volts, 60 Hz in their power-sockets and then plugged it into a 220/230 volt, 50 Hz socket did you?

I'm guessing the same as Onkel Dunkel: A PSU failure.

Hey DS,
I have the contact info of a guy who sells rescue kits for vintage synths and the DX7 is one listed on his site.
If you want this cat's contact info let me know.
Good luck Bro!

Best of lukc to you DS in getting that beast fixed!
If you don't get it working, you can always make a video where you cut the synth with a chainsaw and finally burn it with gasolin and then put the video on the net. :D
But anyways, I feel sorry for you and your synth too. :(

Thx guys...
Ive sent the unit back and got a refund. I love the synth...and will surely buy another one soon....but i think i might pick up a N2x for the time being. Oh yeah...if some of you didnt realise yet....im waiting until next summer before i pick up a TI...or i might just wait for the mLan equipped TI 2.
Ive just bought a good Lexicon effects processor....and its pretty damn interesting mangling synth sounds in it. I ran the Prophet 5 through it...and made some really nice early 80's john carpenter type sounds. Email me if you want to listen to my clip (im having difficulty posting it to my site atm)

lol the carpenters.
clasic family dou. :D
I've found it's really hit and miss getting things off Ebay and second hand in general. Some users don't look after their kit, I had a Waldorf Q and the knobs were virtually unusable after the punishment the previous owner and given it - couldn't do filter sweeps as the value jumped all over the placce when you turned the knobs. I flogged that and got a Microwave XT for the same money and it's in great condition and works fine. It's a bit of a lottery though getting used stuff off Ebay.

Glad you got the money back DS!
Anyway DX7s are cheap enough anyways. Just grab another, some other time. :D

I know, some people shell out for a top class synth like a Virus and then punish it as though it's some second hand groove box. Whenever I get stuff off Ebay now I ask them about the condition of the knobs, are there any that are loose e.t.c. Some guys just use the cutoff knob on their synths.

dont be knocking the groovebox's. they are fantastic.
anyone want to buy one?

they are rather useless in the studio but for performing the sequencing engine of a groove box could be very usful.

ok i will at least testify to it seqeuncing capabilities, if you can be bothered with roland's rediculous menu systems.
