3.1 i belive offer alot if your using external processing gear
total aux control, vsti integration and stuff like that only few years ago you needed a big patchbay and tons of wires to do what you can do today with the sequencer and with ADAT connection.
Ah,btw... im using Sx2 awell. :D

I updated to 3.1 and i had a big issue:
The metronome was GONE! Where did it go, you may ask, well i don't know, but its not there anymore. No sound.
Logic Pro 7.1. No problems.

Techno, make sure your audition buss volume isn't turned all the way down. I had the same metronome issue until I turned the volume back up.
sx 3.1 / nuendo 3.1 / live 5 / wavelab 5 / few other misc bits.

Mackie's Tracktion 2, formerly Cubasis VST (Blech!).
Tracktion 2 is a full audio/midid sequencer fro PC or Mac and a slew of plug-ins for $150.
You also get 2 licenses.
Cheers!

You also have to point the audition bus to the right outputs of your sound card.
