Can you give a brief but detailed explanation of what both are???? I have never heard these terms

Sorry, I can't explain them which is why I'm asking which one to use :lol:

They are in the options menu in my virus and I was wanting to know which one is the equivalent of what other instruments would use.

i belive the pure tuning function is good when you program a sound which uses pitch modulation for example and it makes it go off tune with the song your writing,by using the pure tuning you can bring it back to tune without chaning the mod settings and change the sound.

Pure-Tuning often deadens a sound - takes the small and natural modulations completely out of it. However, it's great for certain sounds - especially when using heavy distortion, and/or when playing chords.

I would've liked it to have been independent so you could save individual PT settings within each patch. - As it stands it's a global parameter so you have to go diving into the sub-menus whenever you want to change it, but it's still a nice option to have.

Take an A for exsample. It?s 440 Hz and the next A is 880 Hz. The notes between are diveded logoritmic into 1/12?s of that span. If you now play a chord in a diffenrent key it will be slightly out of tune. A piano-tuner knows this and will therefore tune (detune) the 2 or 3 strings of the same note slightly different so that it will sound good in any key. This is called equal temperment and is actually a compromise to make chords in every key sound equally bad. With pure tuning the Virus calculates the chord and tunes it in to make the notespan excact. You may find pure tuning a bit cold to listen to because our ears have grown used to litening to things that are actually out of tune.

I find that you have to make a note of where the parameter was when doing vocal recordings. If you keep the singers natural pitch and do a mixdown later and have the parameter on a setting very different to the time of recording then the sense of pitch can be out.
If you use an Autotuner on the vocal you may as well choose 'Equal Temprement' because thats what those plugins do, and then the virus will sound in tune to the singer.
