Been spending almost 3 hours today and 2 hours yesturday mixing this new track of mine,i hope it will translate well (im mixing on a pair of maudio bx8 which are not too super of monitors and also doing it in an untreated room) and if so,its the best mix i ever did. :D

so right now im taking some rest because my ears are beging for it...
how about sharing some of your mixing expirience? :)

I found trying to mix on MSP5's a little grating sometimes....less so with 624's...

But you sure get what you pay for. Id say that all speakers under ?1000 are tireing to listen too

Mixing certainly is one of those things that you know you have to do right. My usual mistake is to forget one thing because the other 20 things were taking up my attention. Most of the time it's like the lead vocal or a key hook that gets left behind.

It's always a good idea to print a few variations like Kik up 2db and down 2db or Bass, Vocal. That's if your paying for time. Then again, if it saves you a day at home then it was worth it also.

Some amps can be tiring also, I kept my Alesis Monitor Ones, thew away my Samson 170 amp and got a JVC digital hybrid amp and the mixes were more detailed, punchy. The main goal is to hear the differences between different eq plugins. Some give you an instant nice feeling but makes your final mixes sound fluffy and unpollished.

Try to keep the level constant!

I think it is recommended listening at around 75-85 dB SPL (For up to 8 hours listening) to be at safe levels. Dont let your hand crank the volume as you get fatigued....take a break, go outside, give your ears a rest.

Give yourself a point of reference. What is the most important part in your song? Is it the beat? An awesome synth line??? Figure it out, and mix other instruments around this part.

ok here some starting tips for mixing and u do not need hight volumes for it..
start the kick from -5 or -7 db bass should stand like -0.3 to -1 db from the kicks ..and all others as u like and after u mixed all u should leave room for master so all the mixed parts should be at - 5 db in the final mix so u up them in mastering...
of forgot to mantion i use my" TR8XL "for this job and seems it doing it well.

Sorry but I dont follow rules such as these.
I usualy do level balancing at the recording\writing stage.
Later while starting to mix i do the followings:
1.Compress if needed.
2.Correct the levels.
3.EQ.
4.Pan
5.Redo correction of levels if needed (but i usualy compensate eq gain lost on the eq plugins themselves).

Check if the mix translated well on other systems,
If not I keep a notebook where I write down what needs to be changed\fixed and go back to start.
I belive owning better monitors and treated room could save me alot of time (which i have tons of accualy...) and be able to do much accurate eqing. (saving up for a pair of Dynaudios as i speak) :D

lool monitors have nothin to do with it....haha u made me laught
fuk man u know that armin van buren the greates human mixer
uses bx-8 monitors
ahah...
no follow tose rules heh?!?!?
and u wonder why it takes to much time and it suckkks loooooool.

If monitors have nothing to do with it what does and why do some enginiers spend huge amount of money buying high-end monitors and even few different pairs (Loud,NF&MF) when they can mix on a 20$ shitbox (Auratone anyone?) :D
I did not say my mixes sound bad nor did I say it takes too much time (hmmm or maybe it does)
I never said im a proffesional mixer nither.

Anyawy, What I said is that i find it hard to pay attention to very small
nuance in the mix and this is cousing me to keep checking with reference in order to achive the desired result,
Armin Van Burren is not the greatest mixer alive, there is much more then life then cheesy trance music, you should check it out sometime.
Geting a "Track" signed is not my single goal in life as an inspiring Musician\Enginier.

Cheers,
Go to sleep.

Tommer....id say half the secret to mixing is using a pair of monitors that dont tire the ears. Once you have that aspect sorted.....listening out for nuances and making adjustments is a matter of taste and experience.....two facets I know you have.

using a fruity loops and creative internal sound card on a p3-800 pc
and it was major hit
so dont tell me u need to spend 10000$ for a fukin monitors to get it right
i dont give a fuk how much posts u have and after u edit ur posts .

To be fair, it was me who suggested getting monitors in the price range of ?1000. Ultimately, I still stand by those centiments.

This has to be the funniest thread in a long while.

melnikov_project: I read the whole article...Nothing new but it's always nice to read something like that as a "reminder".

I'm quite happy with my mixes but there is always room for improvement...
Don't forget that yourself ;)

Now that wouldn't surprise me! That may explain why Juho couldn't handle the Army!?! Or maybe it doesn't. :D
