View Full Version : Gone back to using 1/4inch jacks/MIDI leads, wow.....
Sounds so much nicer through them. Sounds more headroom than the USB plus None of the audio pops and crackles I was getting even under 1.07.
Just had one question: I am trying to export the mixdown of the MIDI track of the TI, which going into my EMU soundcard
- and although I can hear the TI audio when I press realtime export in SX3.1.1.
No sound is there on the recorded track. Been such a long time since I used outboard, can someone point my dumbass in the right direction?
this is me being thick.
You simply needed to press record in sx3.
If the pops and cracks are getting you down and prventing you from making music switch back to 1/4/MIDI.
No real differnce in hassle as you have to bounce in realtime with the usb plug. Just remeber to write them patch names in track names.

About the crackling - have you read this? (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Oct04/articles/pcnotes.htm)
I've tried the little app 'DoubleDawg' tonight, and have found a marked improvement in the audio functionality in SX3 - enough to upgrade the System Performance from 'Normal' at last!
Might be worth a try..

Changed the PCI Latency Timer from 64 to 248, Now it's seems too work much better in Cubase, time will tell :D
This was not possible before now:

I can second that as well. I had a lot of issues with pops and clicks a while back and then stumbled upon a great article on the UAD forums about PCI latency. Once I gave my audio card more priority on the buss and my graphics card less, most of my pop issues went away.

Will give this a read, cheers.
I have a Carillon AC 1 (march 05) and I think all these things are settings are already optimised like this but will double check.
Have a song to finish for Thursday, so will do after that.

Is it possible to use virus control for all the patch managment/recall etc but have the sound coming from the 1/4inch jacks instead of the USB? i have also noticed the sound quality difference...it really is *massively* better from the analog outs in my opinion.
I find myself using the analog outs now even though virus control works perfectly on my setup, i love the convenience of the vcontrol and its a feature i *really* want to use but not at the expense of the sound.
has anyone got any good ways of compromising the two work methods in either logic or cubase? or is this already possible? or is it possible to include in an update?
have a nice day

As far as i know,Viruscontrol doesn't work with the usb unpluged, but after a mess I had with patch syncing via virus control, I prefer to use midi dumps. Did I mentioned that I still have blank screens after 1.0.8 update?
As you have to bounce in realtime with the USB plug,
Seema bit silly to have a 1500 GBP dream machine and having to put up with substandard audio.
So a great feature would be to use the Virus Control for patch recall and analogue outs for sound. Access said we can do this see mail below:

Hello Will,
Thank you for your mail. Well, you can use the Virus Control of course for just recalling patches.
However it is not possible to use the analog outs for the realtime export. If you want to use the
analog outs, simply later record the analog outs back into the computer before you do the audio
mixdown in Cubase SX 3.1.
