View Full Version : Virus TI feature wishlist. [NOT regarding bugs]
To inject a positive thread into the works, this isn't a thread about bug fixes, bug fixing, or anything to do with bugs. Furthermore any bugging bugbear bug buggers will be ignored, and they will receive a painful death by rear insertion of a pnuematic drill placed on 'turbo', and then swiftly drop-kicked into orbit, Jonny Wilkinson style?.
This is for suggesting new features/functionality only. With a bit of luck, Marc/Ben/others might rejoin if everyone joins in. Re-kindle the spirit, and all that.
Here are a few of mine:
* 1-pole version of Access' own filter!
* Customisable/designable and/or importable wavetables.
* A more flexible sub-oscillator (extra waveshapes, and pitch control)
* A extra EG.
* Step/Modulation Sequencer.
* Maybe even a third filter!
* Cross modulation between oscillators.
* Compressor effect.
* Allowing fine-tuning of Osc1...
(When two oscillators from the Virus are used, they are out of tune with other synthesisers because Osc2 of the Virus only detunes in a positive linear fashion while Osc1 remains the same. Thus, the overall pitch is skewed.)
An idea for any such TI v2 would be a Ribbon Controller. Or an XY pad! You can stab it with your finger for gated effects, or use your finger smoothly, there's tonnes of flexibility there and performances will be even more dynamic and expressive. Imagine modulating the tuning of the phaser effect with your finger.... or modulating the filter cutoff AND resonance at the same time with an XY-Pad... Or modulating the octave spread of an arpeggiator pattern with your finger... Or panning and reverb on the XY Pad for 3D depth, or tapping it with your finger for gated morphing effects... There's loads of possibilities!
Your own wishlists, please....

Built-in pattern based sequencer, like RM1-x or Sequentix P3 (but polyphonic)

I thought the moog filters could already be set to 1 pole.
* Customisable/designable and/or importable wavetables.
hmm where have i heard this before? ;)

... It can. And then imagine what a 1-pole version of the original Access filters could sound like. :D
Access' own filter has great characteristics, and is very distinctive. A 1-pole version of that same filter would probably sound even more dramatic than the Moog's!

Not sure! Must be all the other people asking for it, too. :D

I'm backing up DS here. And while we're at it, let's make it capable of exporting straight to MP3 format. :D

Comb filters would be great. Might even be possible as a software update.
Isn't the BS (band-stop) filter the same thing as a notch filter?

+1 for optical. Possibly ADAT, too...
My Creamware Luna and Noah also have optical SPDIF and ADAT capabilities.
I don't want to miss that.
stay tuned

A coffee machine for the late hours :D
* User-selectable attack/decay/release curves for various EGs (Amp, Filter, EG1, etc.), like the Korg Radias.
I'd like a 61-key Polar with violet LEDs and a 9" color widescreen that attaches to the back of the unit. I'd also like an on/off switch and more knobs, eliminating the need for a shift key.

It would be great to see something in the virus control that displayed the resource usage of the ti. As I start stacking on more and more parts, I would love to see how the cpu is doing and how many voices I have left at any given time. This would help me approximate how much more room (to add more sounds) I have left before I start to max out the system.

On a serious note.....quite a good idea Dr Jones!

Yeah, this would be great. However Access might also shoot themselves in the foot by doing that because now most people think that the polyphony is 80 or more always. They might loose some customers if the synth showed the reduced polyphony after adding another reverb etc. But anyway, that would be a good idea. People should just understand that the dsp engine is dynamic.

I'd like to see some more choices for the waveshaper. Step sequencer would be nice, but not obligatory (get a Radias and MIDI it up for that! <g>). Some sort of LED indicator for voice-stealing, though my ears usually give me sufficient info there when I'm patching. Comb filter might be nice, though subtle use of flanger, phaser and chorus together does a similar thing. Ability to overwrite a selected ROM bank. Provide alternate functionality for the shift button, so that either a) it works as currently, or b) it's a toggle for all shift-related functions. Latter is better for the studio than the stage, though. Ability to use arpeggiator as a source in the modulation matrix. And/or step sequencer, if made available (OTOH since you have the ability to choose any MIDI CC #, within reason, to apply as a mod source, this is redundant if you have ANY other synth with sequencer capability and ability to output seq to MIDI, of course). Full Sysex spec included with manual (sorry, I'm old-school). Loopable envelope segments (A6!). Visual graphics for all wavetables (yikes!) in a manual or PDF, so I know more explicitly what I'm scanning thru when I modulate (though using my ears is sufficient here). Can you choose start and endpoints for a wavetable to scanthru currently (probably)? If not, would be nice to be able to set both, on each osc.
Not a lot I can think of, this is a pretty full-featured synth! :D

I want a juno filter emulation
I would like the TI only to open channels bieng used in VC. for example: besides opening up all 16 channels on initial start up have it open just one and from there add whats needed. I dont use all 16 tracks at a time.

One of these on every patch.

what about the virus EQ? if you boost the heights, it slightly seems to saturate them a bit, maybe it's an analogue-kind EQ as well?
I have mixed feelings about the TI eq.
Sometimes I think OMG how could I have lived without them, them some times I just run them dry into a good plug like the waves one and think 'Soooo much better now'
But really I was just commenting on how the SSL emulation kicked ass over any eq/comp vst plug at the moment.

oh, you're one lucky guy! I wanted to buy the URS 1975 comp and the N Series EQ which both together are still cheaper than the SSL bundle, but since I decided to buy an Andromeda, I don't have no money left anymore :-( the next thing I'll go for is definitely some mixing equipment, maybe an UAD?
