OK, my virus ti arrived today.

First things first. God it's gorgeous. For someone used to soft synths, at last I have knobs to twiddle (fnarr fnarr).

Anyhoo, I haven't had a chance to properly explore because the fiancee wanted to go to town today to compile a wedding gift list (like that's important!). But one thing struck me since having 5 mins to start testing it on my return home. As a sound card, for some strange reason it seems to outperform my firewire based Presonus Firebox!!! As an example, I had composed a busy score to accompany some footage for the BBC Galapagos competition in Logic Pro. Eight instances of kontakt, a couple of Albino and some misc Audio tracks. With my Firebox, Kore and core audio, I had to freeze all tracks to get the thing to playback without glitches, warnings and hangs but with Virus Ti as the soundcard (sharp intake of breath).....the whole thing played back complete with movie, unfrozen, without glitches. WTF? How does it do it? What IS strange is that the latency of 1028 which everything else works at in Logic with no live input latency seems to result in very obvious delay between striking key and hearing sound in VC plugin. Plugging MIDI cable directly into Ti seems to bypass this. Must investigate further. Initial impressions are very good though.

Looks like a 5.30am sunday morning rise, gallon of coffee, headphones on. Bliss.

Kind regards to all.

Congrats! :)

Wedding gifts, hmm, I gotta get married. The wedding list would be one long kit list....

Thanks folks. This thing seems to be superb. Working fine in Logic Pro. Ableton Live 5 is OK (will try it in Live 6 r9 later today) but changing the latency in Live's Preferences causes a long delay (30 seconds) before it comes on stream again and changing Audio Card settings in both sequencers requires me to restart them in order to use and hear the VC plugin. Re my comment above about latency - I read the addendum about direct monitoring so problem solved!

The sound card performance is amazingly good - I can sell my Firebox I think.

One negative thing I have found is that the pan for each part can't be automated and only having 2 pairs of audio outs means I can't use a Multi Channel Audio Instrument in Logic environment which would give me individual part sends, automation, etc, etc. And a standalone VC app would be nice so I don't need to connect MIDI and USB.

It's thoroughly bizarre for me with a completely "soft" studio to see the CPU meter barely move with a 16 part track playing!!!! And it's amazing what new sounds you come up with when all the parameters are at your fingertips (literally) instead of a few clicks away.

No doubt I'll have a few questions when I finish the manual and tutorial.

Re Pan automation - I just assign Pan to a soft knob and automate that. No more questions till I've finished reading tha manual.
