Hi guys I cant seem to get any midi thru.
Heres the set up.
Im tryin to get the midi from a kaoss pad 2 thru the TI and into the Motu ultralite.
Im pluggin the kaoss pad into the thru and the midi in/ out from the Ti into the ultralite.
Im not using the VC cause Im still getting pops and clicks and have decided on the old midi way (which I actually prefer!).
All this is running into ableton live and midi is all working fine from TI to Ultralite but thru doesnt register any midi messages.
Ive tried a ddrum module as well as a Beringer foot controller but none seem to be working.
Sorry for the long post!
Cheers

I'm no MIDI guru, but I'll try and help.
I think "MIDI Thru" is essentially a copy of whatever goes into "MIDI In."
For instance, at home I have the following setup: (1) Virus KC (Synth + MIDI controller), (2) Yamaha Motif ES Rack, (3) M-Audio 2496 as my soundcard/MIDI interface.
To record MIDI the chain is:
MIDI Cable #1: Virus KC MIDI Out (Keyboard On) -> Motif ES MIDI In
MIDI Cable #2: Motif ES MIDI Thru -> M-Audio 2496 MIDI In
To play the Virus KC + the Motif ES Rack from my sequencer the chain is:
MIDI Cable #1: M-Audio 2496 MIDI Out -> Virus KC MIDI In (Keyboard Off)
MIDI Cable #1: Virus KC MIDI Thru -> Motif ES MIDI In
So, to play my synths from my sequencer, or to change my setup from configuration 1 (recording MIDI) to configuration 2 (playing via MIDI) I simply plug in the MIDI cable that is connected to my soundcard's MIDI Out port into the MIDI In port of my Virus KC and then move the cable that is in the KC's MIDI Out port over to the KC's MIDI Thru port (the other end of which is connected to the MIDI In port of the Motif ES Rack).
I have funny stuff happen if I leave the MIDI In cable in the Virus, so I only have it hooked up when I am playing the synth from the sequencer.
Maybe this solution is not technically optimal, or maybe it is, all I know is that I can record MIDI and play via MIDI with the switch of one cable.
I hope this helps.

... that answer is correct.:) It's just a copy of the midi In.
(just to take any doubt away)

Thank you for the clarification, Maunga!
The only thing worse than following bad advice is giving it.

Cheers!
Now that makes a bit more sense!
So is there a way to plug it so I dont have to keep changing leads?
Its early monday mornin so I cant think that laterally yet!

I have an Virus B and I am trying to split the midi in signal and route to two separate sequencers. Sequencer A is the Digitakt Sequencer B is the Social Entropy Engine. I tried a midi Y cable and that will not work. I tried to take the Midi in of the virus into a kenton midi thru box and then took two midi cables from the thurs to each of the sequencers and that did not work. Just to note I have the Digitakt OUT routed to a MOTU midi express IN that is set to Midi merge all. So the Digitakt is the master and the Engine is the slave. I tried to configure this MOTU but its kinda complex and I gave up on setting that up and just run it in merge all lol. I think this MOTU is the key to everything if I could just have someone help me configure it properly but who knows. I thought that the midi thru on the virus can be used as just another midi in. So i tried hooking a cable from the midi thru of the virus to the engine sequencer and no luck. Im using the virus in muli mode so each track has its own midi channel.
