I like the fact that the foreground plugs will work automaticly with controllers, and then if you set them up they stay set without having to save templates ect. I wonder if that works with 3rd party plugs too though?

Still, I am sick of the "totaly non-destructive" comment that pops up from time to time. It gives the impression that there won't be any quality loss while stretching and bending. I think most people these days do know that it won't destroy the original source waveform..... But, I do like the fact that you can choose specific algorithms for each track though - should keep the quality right up there.

All up it looks pretty nice!

After watching that I kind of get the sense they actually thought about end users using it rather than just features being implemented (though they seem to have added alot).

I dont suppose it has VST3 support yet or anytime soon - anyone know?

Looking forward to trying a demo of it if/when they release one - wonder if they will have a cross grade deal...

I took a look at Sonar 5 - I was tempted by the 32float mixer. But overall it just felt wrong to me.

I suppose I'm too set in my ways - been using Cubase for about 18 years now.

Gonna check out the Sonar 6 vid now.

I sold my mac so I could buy a new intel mac ...I have been using logic since 5.0 and thats why I switched to mac but now I'm a bit tempted to spend all my cash on a killer pc and sonar...I'm trying sonar out now i'll consider it for sure.
macs are way over priced

I am impressed with it - much improved, I tried Sonar 5 and wasn't impressed at all, some of the features were good but the "feel" just wan't right!

This looks much better though!

When is it out and how much? Does anyone know, don't think I'll be swapping though. I just got Cubase4 (Thanks ten) for a much reduced price and I think it looks quite good...

Yo Drammy,is Sonar6 anything like logic or is it more like Cubase???I have never used it but am looking to maybe upgrade soon...I can't handle all that window to get to window to get to wherever, shite in Cubase..Gets right on me tits !!

I don't know - I've never used it - the demo seems to make it look like its own product in its own right, lots of new features and a much improved workflow.

I couldn't say what Sonar 5 is similar to as I have never used Logic...

I understand what you mean by all the windows of Cubase but I think that has improved a lot and realistically almost everything can be done from the main project window now...

Just takes a bit of setting up, but once done it is worth it.

I'd sooner stick to Logic 5.5.1 than move to Cubase...Hell I'd even give up my British Passport for a German one before moving to cubase... FUKKK ME

It seems that Sonar 6 is the leader of sequencers on pc. Cubase 4 doesn't look as innovative as sonar right now. And the new plugins in Cubase 4 look more like artificial respiration. Most of them are the old ones and they also count the midi plugins. I wonder who uses them. :)

Drammy

Admittedly I don't use the Cubase plugs, got plenty of real plugs instead, plus almost all the UAD plugs and Powercore.

I've used Cubase since the earliest of days on the Atari ST and have kind of grown with it... Whenever I try other things they just don't feel right - guess I'm set in my ways.

If I could get the new versions of Logic for the PC then I would give them a try as they do look good, but alas there is no more PC support and the older versions aren't any better than Cubase 4 (IMO) at least not enough to make me wanna sit down and learn a whole new sequencer and way of working!

It would be good if I was just starting out as there are lots of alternatives nowadays, like Sonar and Ableton, but until I see something special...

Gonna at least try a trial of Sonar 6 though!

im going to pick up sonar6 on tuesday. ive been a cakewalk customer since the DOS days, and its the only sequencer i can handle.

yes, it has freeze. it also has automatic plugin delay compensation, something that ive taken for granted too often.
im excited about the ACT technology, maybe it will actually work. the new VC-64 plugin looks nice at least too.

gee, i wonder if it will work with the TI.

They'll offer a cross platform "upgrade" if you've got a legit version of Logic I believe mate. Maybe even Thomann offers it. cakewalk.com has all upgrade prices.

Best of all, Sonar comes with a good printed manual for hours of shithouse reading pleasure.

I was installing some VSTis the other day for my new DAW (still Logic 5.5.1 at the moment) and one install asked me if i wanted DXi for Sonar, whats that all about?? Doesn't Sonar use Vstis? only DXis and Dx !!

I believe if you can find a copy of Sonar 5 (for about ?129) you can upgrade for free to Sonar 6.

Sonar 5 and earlier had no native support for VST/VSTi, instead a wrapper was used - this was the primary reason I have went with Sonar in the past and instead went with Cubase.

Sonar 6 finally includes native VST/VSTi support, however I suspect that it is VST2.x only, maybe only 2.3. This is sufficient to run most if not all current VST/VSTi plugins, though I would expect that with C4 and VST3 out, then around the Vista release point when alot of companies are planning on major upgrades (to support 64 bit primarily), then some may jump on the VST3 bandwagon (which could be an issue for Sonar 6 and Live 6) - I guess only time will tell. Of course, hopefully they will both soon include some degree of hosting support for VST3 un an update if we are lucky.

Ive gone with C4 for now, but at the same time, am really coming to the conclusion that while it it very good for post production and tracking certain types of arrangements, its a complete arse for the way I do alot of things here - so am thinking of getting something else as well - maybe Live 6.

Thats what happens when you get hooked on an old Sequencer like Logic 5.5.1. time stands still abit.. :?

Logic 5 is a great sequencer. I'm not changing from Sonar 2. Found too often that more features = less music.

Yo Matsa,or anyone else !!
I have noticed that Live has an option that lets you choose your VST folder,so live can search it for VSTs.Can this also be done with Sonar??Because all my Plugs are in my Logic VST folder !

matsa

I can choose my VST folder with Sonar 2, yeps. Check the demo of Sonar 6 mate. Think it's a 30 day fully functioning trial.
