View Full Version : With what do you sequence your virus?

The topictitle is the question...
I hooked up my "new" Indigo II to my XBase 09 and I noticed that it starts putting notes where I put my HH.
I'm going to continue like this but I asked myself how others do it? I refuse to hook up a pc to my rig, I want to keep my XBase09 for the clock, there is no delay or sync problems whatsoever and even with two DIN sync pieces of gear in the rig.
so, how do you guys do it?

Ableton Live here -
How come you don't want to hook it up to your pc?

mainly because everything runs smoothly sync with the XBase09 that sets the pace/clock
I would like to use a sequencer that only deals with the Indigo, everything else in my setup has an onboard sequencer and I like it that way.
Im looking for something that only receives clock and sends out MIDI and clock to the Indigo

I'm getting good results out of the sequencer on a Roland Fantom, but looking for an alternative hardware sequencer maybe with pattern features.
I also refuse to connect the TI to a computer, except to move banks of patches. Life is too short!

Are you computers lovers talking about MIDI, USB MIDI or VC? I thought Digital Performer was not VC compatible?

amazing how many peepz use a PC to sequence it...
I just think it will give latency that I'm not really aiming for, if I'd add a PC to the whole setup.
I'd rather just insert a sequencer in the midi rig for controlling/sequencing only the Indigo

i would just had a new question to this thread.
as i told you i'm pretty new about using a virus, i sequence it with my mpc.
but what kind of midi gear do you use to remote your virus
bcr 2000? remote sl? bitstream?etc?.
i use a evolution uc 17 x session but it's pretty cheap and fat for 16 knob...but it works well.
i mainly work in multi/multisingle mode on the virus so i made a first patch for volume and effects send for each channel.
i don't think i 'm gonna use 16 timbres but 8 (i think it will be enough for the poliphony limitation.
how do you use it (what kind of assignation)?
i hope that perhaps we will can exchange our midi maps ?
(excuse my english i'm not a native speaker (french))

how you mean remote??
My virus is an Indigo II version so it has its own keys and I only use the dedicated controls, I dont add another MIDI controller
I'm also new to the Virus family but I'm loving it more every day! Its a great piece of machinery but I still have a lot to learn about the device and about MIDI. For now I mainly use MIDI for the clock but this must expand if I want to use the Virus to the fullest

Don't let latency deter from moving over to pc (or mac) based daws
My latency is <4ms - not noticeable at all.

Latency? Never heard of it...
You buy the right hardware, and latency is never an issue. It's only people using crappy PC's and MIDI interfaces that have issues.

this is my current rig
http://upload7.postimage.org/683288_67841605219ed582f75bf89052851d7d/currentrig.jpg
now I want to add sequencer in that only deals with the Indigo.
I want pattern/lineair sequencing and the possibility to do: on step 1 play note F, on step two play note F# and so on...
but I dont want to use a pc and I want to keep the XBase to set the clock/tempo because its tights as hell

Why would you need another midi device to control the virus? i'm confused, if it's a TI it'll do anything that the bcr2000, remote sl,etc. will do and much more, unless i'm uderstanding you wrong?
I sequence with Logic btw. and use my TI as a control surface for many of my AU/VST Instruments.
