recording knob sweeps in cubase sx3

This is probably a completely stupid question, but I'm trying to record some stuff with a Virus TI into Cubase SX3 with a lot of knob sweeps, but I can't get Cubase to recognize the shifting changes in parameters as I record.
There's probably just a setting I need to adjust in Cubase or something, but I've been looking and I can't seem to figure it out.
Does anyone have any experience with doing this?
