Hi there!

i'm new to the forum.. found it while searching the net for info about the virus. I'm an oldschool hardware junky and just picked up a Virus TI Snow yesterday. Once apon a time, I had borrowed a friends Virus TI Desktop for a few months...

I don't recall the audio (when using virus control vst) needing to output via USB on the TI Desktop. After reading the manual (the Snow shares the TI manual), it states that using hardware output will lag the TI by one beat.

So here's my delimma... Right now the audio is coming out of my computer's sound card.. The issue with that is I use a hardware mixing board for my audio tweaks.

If i force a patch to the hardware output, then it's off by a beat.

If I were forced to accept this behaviour, then hardware mixing is going to be impossible.

I know I can use the MIDI ports directly, but then I loose the ability to use the Virus Control UI to store all my user defined banks.

Is there a setting i'm unaware of to fix my issue?

i tried pushing the Live button , and the timing is still off when using Out L+R

i don't know what manual you checked that says this. I just went through the following manuals...
- Steinberg Cubase Tutorial.pdf
- Access Virus User_Manual_English.pdf
- Virus Control Tutorial.pdf

The closet i can find is this statement..

Note: There is a bug in Cubase 3.1 which can result in the first
notes played being off when boucing an track. It seems that
a large pre-roll, as lined out in the following hint, lowers the
chance of the problem to take place.

I am using Cubase 3.1 .. So perhaps this is what i'm experiencing . I'm not happy with the bug, that's for sure. If i queue a song half part, then it's entirely off . Groan!!!

Also, i should add that i am not using the virus as my ASIO device .

okay so my sx 3.1.1 was an upgrade from sx 2.0 ..

when i purchased the Virus TI, i also had purchased a new PC . so this windows XP installation is less then 24 hours old . I uninstalled 3.1.1 and installed sx2.0... the computer contains only the following installations:

PC
- AMD Athlon™ X2 5200+ EE w/ 2x512K Cache (2.7 ghz)
- 4 gb ram

Software
- Reason 3.0
- Cubase SX 2.0
- mc808 editor
- microkorg editor
- behringer editor
- adobe acrobat
- virus control vst

Drivers
- m-audio delta 44
- steinberg midi 8x8 driver
- roland mc-808 midi driver
- virus ti driver
- 2 x behringer bcr2000 driver
- m-audio keystation 49e driver
(All other synth hardware is via steinberg midi hub and therefore unrelated to this test)

Cubase has the M-audio delta 44 as the primary ASIO sporting:
- input latency: 6.780ms
- output latency: 6.440ms
- sample rate: 44100 hz
- asio buffer size: 256 samples
- sync: locked internal

I ran 4 tests against another synth (i picked the microkorg) . Both the virus TI and microkorg sample had amp and filter attack envelopes at 0. Here is a list in order of the tests:
- Live: Off, Out L+R
- Live: On, Out L+R
- Live: Off, USB L+R
- Live: On, USB L+R
(All tests were done with a 2 bar lead-in)

Here is the file with the results: http://atomic.speculation.org/tmp/virus%20issue.mp3

As you can hear, the 3rd test (Live Off, USB L+R) is most accurate. Clearly the others are unuseable.

Any other ideas?
