First impressions - new style is a little drab. I think I preferred the old chassis. This looks a bit like a wannabe Apple product. No rack ears were included and it's not obvious to me how you'd attach them if they were. I plan to use it as a desktop synth so I don't mind much. It does feel a bit lighter than the TI1 model.

More on the sound features of 3.0 as soon as I finish loading it.

Maybe spray paint it up and that way it'll seem a little more rough around the edges. ;)

Or maybe drip some candlewax to make it look romantic. As for the weight, nail it to the table for maximum resistance.

Will you be comparing the TI1 to TI2 through experience? I am curious if perhaps this thing will play sessions made on a TI1 better... more polyphony and what not. That would be a killer test.

WHAT?!?! Don't tell me you can't rack the thing! I have my TI in my live rack and I was going to list it on Ebay this Sunday and replace it with the TI2.

Have you checked the bottom of the unit for threaded screw holes? That MUST be where they are. If there's no way to rack it, forget it. And if there IS a way to rack it, this means Access is going to charge for the "optional" rack ears. BULLSHIT!

So let me get this straight..... They release a new TI without ever fixing the quantization/timing problems with Virus Control. Nobody is sure if the TI2 will "fix" this problem. The TI2 is nothing but a repackaged TI with a tad more DSP power. And finally to top it off, NO FUCKING RACK EARS with your $2,100 synth?

It's probably powered via USB and it doesn't come with the "optional" power supply either.

the rack ears are optional now and will be available in the foreseeable future. we found that most customers don't use them, why making everybody pay for it?

Unfortunately I bounced all the TI1 tracks I had to audio a while ago so I can't do a side-by-side performance test.

I've had a brief listen to some of the new distortions and character fx. My first impression is that these might help a lot in overcoming some of the characteristically dark tone of the Virus. Kudos to Access for making these available for the older models too though.

I honestly think that the grayscale faceplate is slightly less ergonomic than the old one. The gray sublabels are very hard to read in indirect lighting. I know this kind of minimal thing is hip right now but I think it distracts slightly from the efficiency of the interface. Some color coding would be quite welcome.

That said, I don't care that much how it looks if it's reliable and if the new effects make as much of a difference in the sound as I hope they will.

What about Virus Control's quantization/timing? Are your arps and sequences actually locking to the MIDI clock?

I still cant read the dark red shift functions on my TI1 desktop!!

I don't use Virus Control at all.

interesting that you say that. i was always under the impression that the faceplate of the TI1 is harder to read (lower contrast for many things, more crowded in total). the color coding (shift functions = red) i always found hard to read on stage.

The old faceplate was hard to read, but the new one isn't an improvement, in my opinion. I like the new wraparound faceplace design but the contrast between the gray metal surface and the white/gray labels could be better.

Mine arrived yesterday.
No sound coming out of the machine.
No demo sound, no midi, no vc noo nooo no.

Next week it's coming back to thomann....

Just got mine.

Works awesome - installed latest beta the .06.

That extra 25% DSP seems to be working... big patches and Multis are really sounding great!!

SOME patches that I had in previous TI definitely clicked - and voices would sooner than later. TI2 seems to be able to handle it a tiny bit better.

The annoying part is this: with some complex patches and/or multis, the TI2 proves itself to be able to handle a lot of "calculations" in one moment. But after a brief pause, when I resume playing, it'll start clicking on just two notes. What the heck, I don't get it.

Is the clicking caused by the TI not being able to keep up or is it possibly a latency issue (too small asio buffer)? I figured the TI running out of steam would manifest itself as voices dropping, not clicking? Or am I mistaken?

Wait when you guys refer to latency, I'm assuming you're referring to using the unit with VC. I'm using it as standalone unit with the analog outs...

I too thought if the TI ran out of steam if would be voices dropping.

Maybe in multimode when there are too many patches layered, each part volume needs to be lowered? But it doesn't sound like an overloading thing.

I tried this just last night and found the TI2 still has the Arp sync issues! (>_<) But I was testing it through Logic and was experiencing high Latency at the time... this was my fault as I had incorrectly set the buffer size to high! (>_<) After reconfiguring the buffer, I didn't check the Arps again, which I'll do later on this evening and let you know what I find.

To me that's a good thing :D
From the pictures I've seen it's beautiful.
It seems a bit smaller without the side wood panels
which means easier transportation. I wonder, can you
get a good protected bag for the TI Desktop?

@ Celestry: What did you find out about the sync issue?

@ Celestry: What did you find out about the sync issue?

So sorry, Soarer, i went off to watch Watchmen last night, and it's EPIC, so didn't get back in time to test! However, i'm got hours alone this evening so i'm going to be testing and posting before i've had me tea! (^_^)

OK, so i've been going through a few Arps (aren't they just so cool!?) and i find that i have zero sync issues through Logic with the correct buffer configuration. However, I am only really trying the patches via the keyboard, so there is no midi control via Logic just yet. I'll give that a go in a bit and keep you posted. (^_^)

Just put the buffer way up again and the Arps broke! Time for some midi control....

OK, with the buffer configured properly, there is neither latency or sync issues for Arps! (^_^) That is to say, playing both via the Polar or via Logic Midi! (^_^)

Hi thanks for the initial testing and feedback. Realy need a known problem project to be opened with the new hardware. Because every new project with the TI 1 starts flawlessly, just when you go deeper into programming that the timing drifts away.

Send me a PM and we'll arrange to have you send me the Problem Project for examination! (^_^)
