View Full Version : Very serious MIDI question for ACCESS

Hi

I noticed some very strange thing...

when I use the virus TI in remote mode to record knob movement. I noticed that when I used my M-audio ozonic. There was a difference in accuracy... my ozonic was drawing more points, just a little bit more... wich resulted in smoother lines....

Was this latency???

2 hours later I discovered some more weird I could not believe... ok I am not a pro... But when I was looking to move the sliders in virus control (mixer slider) I locked soft knob 1 down on channel volume (wich was named part volume in control when I over moused it and took me 1hour to find) whatever... When I start using the knob... I emediately start noticing that the movement was not smooth... I looked down on the little screen of the virus to see if the knob was jittering the numbers it was sending. but that was ok... tried soft knob 3, it was the same... the slider jumps a little bit when i turn the knob, it jitters... and is therefore unuseable!!!

Now I just got the idea to try my ozonic on it... I put cc 7 on a knob and via routing in ableton the slider was moving... unbelievable smooth.

I have no idea what this could be... It seems (what I think) that the MIDI messages inside the VIRUS are in (maybe) conflict whit some other processing things... but notice that nothing is playing a single note...

Very weird that a controller (ozonic) sends a cc through fire wire to pc and then usb to the virus and is WORKING BETTER THEN HIS OWN KNOBS...

I hope someone can teach me something about this... Access?

Or did I discover somekind of bug?

Kindly regards

Yornav

ps: I have a TI2 desktop os3

Not sure how you have your virus setup but mine did something like that. I think i had the midi cable plugged in at the same time as the usb it didnt seem to like it anyway for some reason,

My setup... only USB connection and usb connection is to a single usb port for itself no hub.

Virus control is actualy in the middle... Virus-PC-ozonic... Is the fire wire from my ozonic sending it straight to virus control??? and mayby faster then the USB connection??? I do not know...

If so... does anyone have any idea to deactivate ALL audio stream through USB? so I can send only midi information??? maybe then I have more acurate midi stream???

Hi im not sure about your last post but i just remembered i needed 10 controls on the virus i set the first 5 to midi channel two- think its was "B1 %20 *" i set them to channel two because channel one "B0 %22 *" didnt seem to be working very well i think that was because data was being transmited on channel 1 from logic.

So i tried to set the other 5 contols to channel 16 this didnt work very well either and the knobs on the virus wouldnt span the range from 0-127 or what ever it is they would only range out so far think this was doing something like what you were saying with the jittering.

Try assigning them to different midi channels

Hi yes just had a look at your ozonic i suppose it could be sending out conflicting midi cc controls. Have a look at what cc number are assigned to it and then set those or your virus cc's higher so there are no signals the same.

I do not want to use my ozonic for that slider control in virus control... Ik just came up with the Idea to do a TEST... and then fell out of the sky that the ozonic was sending smoother midi then the Virus ti to virus control... notice that none other information is send... only ozonic or virus... and midiloops...

By the way givin other midi messages is not a solution because CASE 2, my main problem... that I wrote as first post... the virus is NOT in REMOTE control. ist just using its own comunication with virus control...

Ok big discovery...now...

It's seems that every parameter, every knob I turn! has the effect!

Or everbody has this problem, but because they do not have the knowledge to see something is wrong... with the communication through USB.

Or It is only on my PC... but I don't think it is major problem...

It could be? that I am the first one to notice... some kind of bug. I am going to make a video of this... so everybody can do the test... it wil take some time... and I am going to mail Access...
