thinking of getting cubase 5 studio. does VC work with this?

i noticed the studio version has not external effects or external instruemnt support, what does this mean? does VC and virus count as an external instrument?

It should. I've been using VC just fine with Cubase 4 as both an analog and digital audio source (Cubase 5 is on the way). In Cubase, external effects and instruments refers to allowing you to route signals out and back into Cubase.

Just don't expect the side-chaining feature to work at all for PC (with no fix from Steinberg in sight) and the workaround for OSX is buggy as hell:

VC works perfectly under Cubase 5 and I see no reason why it should not work Cubase Studio as well.

I´m gonna try to sidechain and see how it works.

i'm not aware of a difference in between the PC and Mac version. and i'm not aware of a workaround which is more or less perfect than the straight forward way of dealing with side chaining. please elaborate.

best, marc

Does using the Analog outs in VC use Delay Compensation like the USB 1,2, and 3 outs?

Not on topic but on the subject Cubase 5 and sidechaining...

When I switch to "3 outs / 1 input", Cubase 5 gives me the error message:

Inputs are not supported in this host (Cubase VST)

With the thread I linked to -
http://www.infekted.org/virus/showthread.php?t=30353
- I explain in detail on the first page with pics how I got Virus TI sidechaining to work on my Mac within Cubase 4.5.2; the "III Virus TI" plugin I use as an insert does not appear in the PC version and this has been confirmed by several people within that thread and elsewhere...the best elaboration I can give is in that first post.

Also, your explanations within that thread lead me to think that the problem may also exist in Cubase 5 because you mention several things about VC being broken and needing to be fixed by Steinberg...but I don't own C5 and won't be upgrading so I can only comment on 4.5.2.

My Virus TI kbd works fine in Cubase 5 :>

Word of warning. If you want to use external hardware effects, you will need the FULL VERSION of Cubase 5. If you aren't bothered, light or studio edition is fine.
[This has somewhat bitten me in the ass recently which is why I mention it...]

The side-chaining shown in this tutorial (second one down) doesn't work?
