View Full Version : Problem storing an edited RAM patch

Hello together,

I have a strange thing which I do not understand:

In general I thought the RAM patches are possible to edit and store. At my virus snow I have most of the patches as copy in the ROM anyway. So I had modified the patch

RAM 6-2-6 'PPGsaws BC'

at the settings of Vibrato, Effects, Guide (which are directly accessible on display via the 3 variable knobs) as well as the Cutoff and Resonance (permanent knobs). I stored my changes directly to the same place RAM 6-2-6.
But (not all of) my changes have not been stored permanently. Only the settings of Cutoff and Resonance have been stored!?

And then I found out the when I change the settings for Vibrato, Effects, Guide I did not see the display the kind of "currentValue [defaultValue]" which I see e.g. for Cutoff and Resonance.
Some other RAM patches, e.g. 2-2-6 'Pitchy AV' do have that for e.g. Width (showing me the default [0]).

The same happens for my modified RAM 2-7-6 UK'BassMS patch! Only my changed Cutoff and Resonance values are stored.

Please can someone explain me that? It does not make any sence. Why can I not modify any value of a RAM patch and store it? Even if there is a statement anywhere in the documentation - it does not make sence.

I used the search but I did not find something, altough I think someone must noticed that too?

Hi NoLie, your problem might not relate to the store characteristics of RAM slots only. note that soft knob settings are generally not saved with the patches. that is why only your Cutoff and Resonance parameter changes became permanent.

Investigating more further I found out, that it is not directly a 'soft knobs' thing. See the mentioned RAM 2-2-6 'Pitchy AV' for soft knob Width. This value can be saved.

I think a soft knob can be saved if it corresponds to exactly to one standard parameter. It looks like that it can not be saved if the soft knob refers to a more complex thing/function as a modulation matrix function.

When I look at the common menu for the soft knob settings for patch RAM 2-7-6 (UK'Bass MS) it is defined as:

Soft Knob 1: Phatter -> Function As Control 12
Soft Knob 2: Infect -> Function As Control 13
Soft Knob 3: Reso -> Function As Modulation Wheel

So I played arround with the modulation matrix settings (with the number values) which are default:

Slot 1:
Mod Wheel +21 Filter2 Resonance
Slot 2:
Controller12 +55 Osc2 Detune
Slot 3:
Controller13 +63 Ring Modulator
Controller13 -12 Patch Volume
Slot 6:
Velocity On +28 Filter1 CutOff

Is there anybody outthere, who can tell me what I have to change, to reach the same as when I bring the soft knobs in a certain(this) position:

http://www.fen-net.de/~na468/music/patch_setting.JPG
(For completeness the values I use for CutOff 65, Resonance 42)

Everything I tried did not bring the same result.
I still not unterstand why it should not be possible to save all current patch settings when I have adjusted the sound I like? It is just a thing of storing all things which currently bring the sound to sound like it sound. There is no logic for that, saying it could not be stored because ....

So anyway I would be glad if someone can show me how to change the (modulation matrix) parameters/settings (without using the soft knobs) to get the same result, which then can be saved.

Meanwhile I managed to change some basic parameter values which have the same effect as soft knobs at a certain position AND which is storeable:

E.g. for RAM 2-7-6 (UK'Bass MS) I wanted the sound like when the 3rd soft knob (Reso) is used at full level. To change something in the mod. matrix was the wrong approach. I simply had to change the Resonance of Filter2 to an higher value (Softknob3 -> Mod.Wheel Funct. -> Filter2 Resonance).

Same success I had with RAM 6-2-6 (PPGsawsBC) which 2nd soft knob (Effects). According to Softknob2 -> Data Entry Funct. -> Delay Send, I just had to increase the Delay Send value in the Effects section (which is the same as turning the 2nd soft knob right). And this is also saveable:-)

So ok, I think I have to learn more and more to understand. But an indirect save of the soft knob settings would be great too, so you can just frooze a sound you hear (no matter what menus or knobs you touched), and you get this sound again.
