View Full Version : TI2 as VST - USB a requirement?

I run Cubase 5.x and am thinking about getting a TI2 desktop to go with my Motif.

The Motif can appear in Cubase as a VST when hooked up via Firewire. The Firewire gives the Motif multiple channels of MIDI and audio and essentially turns the Motif in to a big sound card.

While I would use the analog audio outs of the Virus (to go in to the Motif) I assume in order for the TI2 to appear as a VST in Cubase I would have to hook it up via USB? Is it possible to have Cubase (or ANY DAW for that matter) recognize BOTH the Motif FW MIDI I/O AND the Virus USB MIDI I/O @ the same time?

Thanks in advance for your help!

i'm no expert on this, but i don't see why not.

btw, when you plug in the virus via usb you'll also have virtual audio (i.e. audio from the virus will go in to the sequencer over usb). thus, you should be able to route the virus' sound into the motif digitally within the sequencer - no need to use analog outs.

Thanks!

Unfortunatly Cubase won't allow for two audio cards to be used at once... in other words it would see the Motif XF AND the Virus as competing sound cards, so I would have to choose one. The Motif XF Firewire is very powerful, so it is the one I would use. Besides, it has 24 bit DACs just like the Virus, and I like the sound of the Virus better coming out via the analog outs so I have no problem running it through the Motif.

So, in this case, I would simply hook the Virus up via USB for MIDI purposes only. I assume I can turn off the "Audio" portion of the USB and just have it send MIDI, correct?

Thanks!

You can choose which output each of the 16 parts will come through via the Virus plugin - so you can decide which of the three USB virtual channels to use, or you can assign it to the analog outs etc if you want to go through the firewire analog ins.

That is perfect! I appreciate the insight. Looks like a TI2 would make a fine companion to the Motif.
