Hi,

I've just managed to hook up my Virus C(had it for ages but only now start using it not just as a stand-alone) to my M-Audio Fasttrack Pro soundcard. And i play it via my Midi Keyboard in Reason 5. This might be a stupid question but i am still a novice and i never used external hardware before. But how do i record what i play through the Virus C into a Reason track? Also i think my setup is not entirely correct cos now i can't control my Reason tracks no more with my midi keyboard, only the Virus. Recording with the Reason software and my midi keyboard has been great so far, but now i want more, hence trying to hook up this Virus C and record with it in Reason 5. If anyone could help me that would be great. Try not to use too many $100 words, i still have a lot to learn :)

My setup is this. Midi out keyboard --> Midi in Virus --> Midi out Virus --> Midi in Fasttrack Pro --> Midi out Fasttrack Pro --> Midi in Keyboard.

Sorry dude, Reason is not meant to be used with external instruments. If you want to use external instruments with your sequencer you will need to have a DAW like Logic/Cubase/Ableton.

That is strange that you say Reason doesn't work with the Virus. Because it does get Audio input from the Virus when i play it. I just can't get it to link to a track. I tried to direct it through the channels to a track, but no go. If the Virus isn't supposed to work with Reason then why does it receive its audio? And if it really does not work then i don't understand why because Reason is a very popular and powerful piece of software. I hope i can still get it to work or else my Virus is useless to me. Maybe i need to get in touch with those Swedes from Propellerhead themselves and ask them what the heck is going on?!!!

Not really, Reason has never supported external instruments. The only way to integrate Reason with other bits of kit is by using Rewire (http://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/index.cfm?fuseaction=get_article&article=rewire) & going through a DAW.

If the Virus isn't supposed to work with Reason then why does it receive its audio? You can get audio in to allow you to make use of the new live sampling feature, I've got Reason 4 which doesn't have this so I can't explain to you how you would do this. Read the manual to learn how.

It does what it's designed to do, that is be a powerful self contained virtual synth rack & sequencer. It is very good at what it does.

I hope i can still get it to work or else my Virus is useless to me.You will not get your Virus to work with Reason unless you use another DAW. You may however, be able to make arrangements using pre-recorded audio from the Virus if you use Record (http://www.propellerheads.se/products/record/), I've never used it myself but it looks like it's an audio sequencer & it does come with Reason 5 doesn't it?

Maybe i need to get in touch with those Swedes from Propellerhead themselves and ask them what the heck is going on?!!!

Do that, but don't be too upset when they tell you Reason does not support any external instruments. ;)
