Firstly just have to say the online manual for the C is utter useless with regards to getting this thing wired up
Anyway rant over....
Just got my hands on a virus c and need some help setting it up
this is my setup
focusrite saffire pro 14 audio interface
m-audio oxygen 49 keyboard. note: usb only
virus c
the guy in the shop said i only need 1 midi cable but not sure what jacks i should be putting it into? Then i face the challenge of getting logic to recognise it and play through it!
could anyone explain where the cable needs to go e.g. which ins and outs and if i need to do anything additional with the saffire software as well as logic?
Hi Matt
Oxygen > Computer (using USB lead).
Computer > Saffire (using Firewire lead).
Saffire midi-out > Virus midi-in (using 5-pin DIN Midi lead)
Virus midi-out > Saffire midi-in (using 5-pin DIN Midi lead)
Virus analog outputs 1 & 2 > Saffire audio inputs 1 & 2 (using 1/4" mono audio cables)
Saffire analog outputs 1 & 2 > monitors/speakers left and right (using balanced 1/4" TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) cables if you have professional monitors, or standard 1/4" mono cables if not).
Saffire > Headphones (...if desired, assuming you want to monitor the Virus along with other audio from your computer for mixing purposes using headphones. Otherwise you can monitor the Virus directly by using the Virus' headphone output if wished).
Within Logic, the MIDI and audio settings will be found within the menus, usually lurking under "Preferences".
You will need to configure two MIDI inputs if possible. One would be the M-Audio Oxygen USB MIDI input, and the other would be the Focusrite Saffire MIDI input (assuming you want to record knob twiddling from the Virus itself). All audio inputs/outputs should be routed via the Saffire within the same preference menus. Use the Saffire ASIO drivers for low-latency monitoring.

Hi Timo
Thanks for your advice, unfortunately it doesn't work :(
I've got it wired up exactly as you said. The external midi track is receiving the midi data from my keyboard but the virus doesn't play it back when all the tracks have the record button enabled.
It's almost as if the midi data isn't being received by the virus as with headphones in it doesn't play anything (have adjusted the master vol). I managed to get it working the other night briefly then it stopped.
This is very odd!
any further help would be awesome, thanks.
