Hi, i would like to hear from you what is the best synth in terms of tweakability from the SURFACE - with no software at all to sculpt the sound !!! Only synth on the market, no golden dinosaurs.

All genres are welcome, only the happiness in sound design is accepted.
Of course the virus is excluded from that thread.

it's not so old, you can find it on the market... Alesis ION absolutely. you can make weird sounds, anything is remappable anywhere. you can assign every LFO to every other LFO and stuff... something maniacal really. also, I don't think it's so useful besides sound effects.

I can think of several synths that operate completely on the surface, and some that are *mostly* on the surface. First, Moog Voyager or Little Phatty. 100% analog good times. For something a bit more "outer-spacey", look at the Dave Smith offerings, including the MoPho keyboard, or my favorite, the Mono Evolver. About 90% surface control, and a few random menu items that are easy to locate and tweak.

thanks, you can consider also 2 categories: best VA and best analog; also synth out of market, but easy to find used.

Waldorf Microwave XT hands-down! 43+ knobs and always have missing time from my life whilst donning headphones and tweaking knobs. It does not only have massive wavetables but ring mod/FM/and your regular wavefoms and really great array of digital filters...it can blow out speakers easily if not careful.
The second is the aforementioned DSI Evolver Desktop, which can run it through ext in of XT or the XT through the Evolver and that's ALOT of twiddling not to mention you talk to aliens!

After this past few weeks with Waldorf Q rack (obtainable used but do not come up that often), can safely say very tweakable on the surface, with a mod matrix reaching heaven or hell--it can go both ways as far as sounding, well...what the Microwave XT cannot do, the Q can! Would not surprise me to see on an alien spacecraft, both the orange XT and bright yellow Q occupying 10 rack spaces as their form of intergalactic radio!!:D Maybe there IS something to the term "Waldorfians"...those Germans are aliens under the store front of a synth company!
Honestly, I dare say this gives the Virus a shakedown! Yes, it's bright yellow but no dino!
