Hi all,

Here's another new one.

This one features the Virus, and, for the first time, my Eurorack modular :)

Took a listen to this & quite liked it. The production side of things could definitely be improved upon though I think. There was no dynamics in the track & sounded flat. Try some panning, some FX, maybe some filtering & definitely some reverb to give it some depth. Just my 2c.

Thanks very much for commenting.

I will certainly take another look at the production. I actually tried to include lots of movement and dynamics - I used lots of automation and sidechain compression, and there is lots of reverb and effects, so I found your comments very interesting. I must have been a bit too subtle, because I usually don't like the effects to be too dominant.

What did you use to master? I use the Izotope Ozone suite & find the stereo widener & dynamic's plug-ins make a big difference to the final mix.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in answering. The track is not really mastered. I am not a mastering engineer and don't really know anything about it.

I was always under the impression that it was a very specialised skill that you shouldn't really undertake if you don't know what you're doing...

Yes you can tell it hasn't had any mastering magic. It is a very specialized skill best left to the experts BUT even if you just run the track through a preset in something like Ozone it's gonna sound WAY better than not doing anything at all to the track, I guarantee it. It's not as though your going to break it or anything. You can usually download a free demo of this kind of thing so what have you got to lose?

My first ever attempt at mastering can be heard here:

https://soundcloud.com/daniel-b-1/machine-force

and here:

https://soundcloud.com/daniel-b-1/machine-force-alternative-mix

It's two different mixes of the same track.

I did both of them today using the standard Logic plug-ins.

OK let me ask you this, are you happy with the mix? When you compare it to some of your favorite music of a similar genre how does it compare?
