Once 'USB' shows up of the screen, 1/4" outs do not work

When I have my computer on and I use my Virus the 1/4" outputs work perfectly fine. Once I open up my 'Standalone app' for my Sub 37, the Virus screen shows 'USB' in the upper right corner and now no sound is coming from the Virus 1/4" outputs. I want the keep the USB connected on the Virus for midi, but now I can't hear sound one other synths apps are open. Is there a way to have the 'USB' in the corner of the Virus screen and still get 1/4" audio output?
