Read books my friend. Also just sit down and enjoy the experience of making music. Experiment with different fx, eq, and remember to use your ear. Numbers are guidlines, you r ears are the deciding factor! Practice makes perfect!

Thanks for the advise but people who state the blindingly obvious and offer no real help really irritate me. I do read heaps of books and I do enjoy the experience of making music. However I do not want to lose the music I have made thus far and books are not enough as they do not deal with specific details of different gear. If somebody was to set up a course for people to learn about different sorts of music hardware ie- virus synths etc. they would make a fortune.b

Easy killer, you came off as a noob by pleading for help and asking for a mentor. I thought I might offer beginner advice, since it seems beginners want to learn everything overnight. That is why I threw out that suggestion. My apologies for irritating you.

What specifically are you wanting to know that you cannot find in a manual and time spent with the machine? Subtractive synthesis is the same priciple whether it is a nord, virus, Q, etc. . . . As long as you understand the priciples behind synthesis, EQ, compression, it should translate from one piece of kit to the next, except for maybe a few additions to certian pieces. I am not trying to bust your balls, just trying to find out what you are wanting to know so I can maybe offer advice.

apologies accepted, I didnt mean to snap , its just I am nearing the end of my tether at the moment. I admit I have only had my virus for two and a half weeks but I am getting nowhere with this store problem( and I have read the manual which may aswell be written in bloody chinese). Its got me beat.
I am working with an akai mpc2000xl sequencer. When Ive finished my songA which Ive created with the virus indigo11 in multi single mode I want to save all the sounds exactly as they are then work on a new songB with different sounds once again in multi single mode. So what I want to know is firstly how to store everthing the way it is then how to recall it if I want to work on the songA again later. I have done everything people are telling me and it does not happen. I just get the same songA arrangement but it plays the sounds from the new songB. Do I have to store all the sounds individually and then dial them back manually later if I want to use? This means I would have to write down the numbers so surely this is not the way to do it. Also If I store the sounds from songA or from anything I do,do they not overwrite the original factory preset or whichever one I choose to store it to? But what if I do not want to lose the preset? This seems stupid. Why is there not an empty memory bank to store stuff?

WOW! We are practically neighbours.......

Im not a Virus Expert, but the problems you seem to be having I reckon will be easily sorted out with a little time spent with trial and error.

Send me an email ( jason @ 24bit192k DOT com ) and maybe we can organise something

Good luck!
