24bit 44.1kHz @ 512 sample buffer

24/96 all the way with the frame buffer on full (2048 samples). this means i cannot play anything in realtime and the 96khz sample rate kills cpu cycles in FL studio so i can only ever really get 1 or 2 instrument sounds in realtime.

But this is OK because i rarely run anything in realtime - i typically bounce everything from separate instrument project files and import all the wavs into a master project file where i reassemble everything and work out whats wrong and where.

24/96 does offer a noticeable difference and you get a fucktonne more dynamic range working in 24/32 bit internal float.

In cubase when working I use 48 KHz and 32bit float. If you test it you cannot go into the red in cubase at lower bit rates such as 16 and 24 without digital distortion. At 32bit float you can go into the orange and touch the red without any distortion or digital clipping. You have much more headroom and you can make the mix more dynamic!
On mixdown I mix to 24bit 48 KHz most of the time!

When i work, its at 24/44.1. When i export i dither to 16 bit.

if i could point out one crap that followed the digital revolution it would be digital distortion. (HORROR!)

Another reason why 24-bits (recording) and 32-bits (mixing) are more desirable when laying stuff down and manipulating it. The available headroom with 32 bits is enormous.

And it should be mandated in law in all civilised countries that all gear should have a little red light on it to at least to let you know when you hit the red line :)

Too many times Ive sat there listening to somethign and thinking I dont remember adding any distortion to that patch... :?
