Just look around for Analogue mono synths. For the price of the TI you can pick up a few of these, but the thing is, they are usually only good for one thing, and that's bass in most cases.

The TI on the other hand is usefull for many things. I don't use my Virus for bass (except for processing), but it is truley inspirational for pads, leads and general madness.

Take out a loan, buy the TI and a few little bass heavy boxes! :D

Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

I'm thinking I would rather keep my setup as simple as possible (a philoshophy which also helps protect my wallet ;). One analogue synth for generating the deeper sounds and one more complex digital synth to go crazy with. The Waldorf Pulse Plus does look rather tasty to me: how does it compare to other monosynths?

Pretty well I think. I don't have one myself, but I know a guy who gets huge bass out of one. Not a heap of hands on control though.

I wouldn't mind an analogue synth with total integration :)

My guess is pretty good. Next time I'm in Tokyo I'll be giving one a bash. They have the same filters as the pro-one I hear.

But that would just take all the fun out of it. :D

It's a hard one to judge. I honestly don't listen to alot of their stuff, but I do know that Daft punk are famous for their abuse of compression. Much of their sound can be attributed to that. Maybe can you post a small clip so we can listen to the exact sound you might be interested in?
