my last word on this subject.

the virus homepage says:

"OS 6.5 lifts the award winning Virus filter to another dimension adding four additional algorithms featuring from self-oscillation to analoge style discreet circuit overload emulation. The new Analog Filter was modelled after a Mini Moog(TM)"

wow! try the "taurus" (f109) patch with the 1P analog filter, give it a bit resonance and cutoff, now play a bit with the filter decay; eats almost all poly in multi mode, but this realy rocks!

installed and played with for the last 2 hours.

im impressed!!

it adds another characture to the virus that i didnt think was possible. theres only one way to hear what the new filters are about. download the OS, install the new sounds with it, then slowly turn the cutoff and resonance knobs.

this beats the pure tuning OS update hands down! 8O

Nice featrue in the new OS.
My compliments to the Access guys.

The selfoscillation is great.
try this:
Put the Oscvol to 0
select the analog filter (1p, 2p, 3p, 4p), set the resonance on 127 and the cutoff on 69
MOD:
source--------dest-------amount
keyflw-------cutoff---------+34

OK can i clarify something guys. Does this new filter actually self oscilate? They use the term self resonate...... but thats not the same as self oscilate!

well in the pdf file i got with the OS update they talk about self oscillation.... but what is the difference anyway ?

So im curious, how do you all feel the sound of the new filters compare to the sound of the filters on the ION? ALso, i see that there are four filters, and the mini moog filter is being discussed. What are the other three filters?

The new Analog Filter is basically a 4 pole ladder filter that is modelled on the minimoog filter. However, the Virus' implementation allows the user to choose between 1pole, 2pole, 3pole or 4pole modes, because in the digital domain these things become possible.

When you take into consideration the fact that Filter 2 is still active in this moment, all sorts of configurations come into play, so you can effectively create anything from a 1 Pole to a 6 Pole filter array, in Serial or Parallel!

So, the only array that is strictly moogish in character is the Analog 4P - all the other modes are unique to the Virus I guess :)

how does that ion sound?
i wonder
is there any place i can hear some sound examples of it?

Awesome explanation of the new fitler modes! Thanks!
As for the ION, there are TONS of ION samples floating around . The only issue I see with ION is low polyphony and crap/few effects. The ION was also touted as having 500mips sound engine and using all of that to be aliasing free but I have been told that is not the case. While I dont want to change the subject of the thread the reason I bring the ION up is it has a TON of killer filter models and I was looking for someone to compare the to the VIRUS.
