Geez this will be my First post besides my intro///

Top ten in no particular order.

1.-Blind Willie Johnson- Dark Was the Night

If I drank the koolaide and saw God, and said God put soul into a song, then across Blind Willie'e lips said song came.

2.Godspeed you! Black Emporer-Moya

While most people cannot stomach a full 20-30 minute Godspeed song this bite size godlett puts a massive amount of energy into 10:51 seconds. A new type o prog, massive and orchestral...

3.Boards of Canada - RoyGBIV

From my longest song to the shortest song .For some damn reason I instantly revert to a happy childhood moment when I hear this 2:31 second electro-minuette. If you have not heard the entire "Music Has the Right to Children" record you are missing out.

4.Rush-Lessons
First song I could play all the way through on guitar and subsequently the first time I ever hit some green.

5.Frou Frou - Let Go...

I love her voice and the beautiful composition of this song.

6. The Cinematic Orchestra- Science Fiction Jazz--

A mellow ambient jazz masterpiece from a band who has a superhuman drummer that wipes his arse with Mike Portnoy/Neil Pert brand toilet paper--- See the song for Flite audible delusions of a 3 armed drummer.

7. Jeff Buckley - Satisfied Mind
Have truer words ever been spoken?

8.Meshuggah - Rational Gaze

When I need metal and my heart rate upped 20 bpm on the treadmill... Nothing like metal in 6/8

9. Catherine Wheel - Black Metallic
Nothing like that early nineties shoogazer wall o sound. I love this band.

10. meat beat manifesto - simulacra
Spooky, Ambient.... thats my kinda style.

I tried to name a bunch of stuff people may not have heard of before. I have another top ten everyone has heard of. Which includes the likes of Radiohead,NIN,Massive Attack,FLA,Delierium,SRV,Satriani,Dream Theatre,Rush...etc

Top record of all time goes to OK CPU by raidohead with Dark Side of the Moon a Close second.

Wow, I started this thread so long ago, who woulda thought my musical tastes would've changed so much??? ;)

I think my top ten would now have some King Crimson, Jethro Tull, YES, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake.....'

I guess I have to wait until I am old and grey before my final top ten is complete

Wow, can't believe it took me so long to spot this thread!

Some nice metal choices, although I prefer the grim Darkthrone style Black Metal to the over-produced Dimmu/CoF stuff (Spiritual Black Dimensions is a pretty underrated album though - Astennu's guitar playing is fantastic!). In light of that, here's my list...

1. Burzum - Det Som Engang Var (otherworldly Black Metal: probably responsible for me getting into Trance!)

2. Aborym - Here is No God (Black Metal band does a sort of dark industrial house thing in spectacular fashion)

3. Destroyer 666 - Raped (Modern Australian band doing old skool thrash metal better than anybody back in the day ever did!)

4. Tomcraft - Loneliness (massive lead line, say no more)

5. The Eagles - Hotel California (perfectly produced, something new added to the song in exactly the right places)

6. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (likewise)

7. Led Zeppelin - Friends

8. Mercyful Fate - A Dangerous Meeting (\m/)

9. Darkthrone - Crossing the Triangle of Flames (the riff at the end is pure evil, haha)

10. Heaven 17 - Temptation (don't laugh, it's a great pop song, but there's something sort of sinister about it too. I've loved it since I was a little kid)

Timo 06.11.2006 12:42 AM

Gouryella - Ligaya (the promo version without the shitty vocals, awesome track of its era)
U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name (awesome intro, great tune)
U2 - Walk On
Prodigy - Firestarter (fantastic when played live - just search for Prodigy Firestarter Glastonbury on youtube...meh, here y'are, i did it for you, enjoy!: http://youtube.com/watch?v=WRtyG1hajqk )
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing (loved it all the way from when I was little. Knopfler sure can play guitar!)
Rank 1 - Airwave
Tiesto - Suburban Train
Syntax - Pray (awesome tune, loved Syntax - Bliss (Wrecked Angle mix) too, underrated band, one of modern music's great tragedies that they split)
Vangelis - Rachel's Song (loved his blade runner stuff, too)
Oasis - Some Might Say (brings back college memories!)
Ennio Morricone - Gabriel's Oboe (from "The Mission" soundtrack)
Marc n Ace - Conquest Paradise
Hans Zimmer - Gladiator end title sequence (inc. Now We Are Free) (first time I saw/heard it I could hardly breath)
System F - Out Of The Blue (System F's 5am mix) (pre-millennium supersaw heaven!)

Damn, I could fuckin go on, and on, and on....

Just to plug my mate's band - if you get chance to see a Prodigy tribute called Jilted Generation, do it! My mate plays guitar, but they've done a couple of gigs with Gizz Butt taking over for a few songs :D
