OS4  I dreamt of this idea. Is this real? |
Yesss looks good, although I was kinda hoping that the Vowel and Comb filters would be per note, not per patch as they seem to be effects.
I'm not going to complain though (as much as i like to!) |

I trust that they will offer some cool sonic possibilities, but the idea of speaker cabinet emulation seems a bit out of place for a synth. What is this, a Line 6 product?

A 3rd envelope would be very nice but I would also like to see a "program genetics" randomizing/morphing feature like the SoundTower editor for Evolver or Reaktor. I'm actually quite surprised they haven't at least implemented a patch randomize button in Virus Control. I'd rather endlessly click the mouse than wear out the physical buttons on the TI.

the speaker simulation helps greatly to merge the virus sound with the rest of the arrangement. similar techniques have been used for years by mix engineers who re-recorded their synth in the studio. try it, when OS4 is out and you will know what i mean. marc |
People often route synths into guitar stompboxes and amplifiers as a production technique. The Speaker Cab option is separate so you can choose not to incorporate it into patches if you don't wish to.
Hi Marc, is there a time-scale on OS 4? Thanks, Timo |

My only question is WHEN will be OS4 be released? |
Putting synths through pedals/amp sims is a great idea. Something I do a lot of anyway...'dirty' sounds are very in fashion at the moment in the trance/electro/industrial scenes. Boys Noize/Deadmau5/Justice etc.
Of course there is nothing to say you have to dirty them up, used subtly they can take the rough edges off a sound or help bed a synth sound into an arragement, esp one that uses other miked up instruments. Can't wait to get my hands on OS4 tbh! :D |
It's not even out yet and I'm thinking of other things - the arp to matrix thing looks really great. Wouldn't it be cool if you could smooth (lag) the velocity steps, I thin NI Massive has this in the step seq. I'm thinking of the formant filter and that would sound good. I know there's the S+G lfo, but maybe it's me, i can never get that slippery transition i want. I need something more abrupt than S+G but softer than S+H.
Very picky i know:) |
There's nothing wrong with quick n dirty amp sims as long as they don't take away from the core featureset. My virus is not very often touring, so they're of limited use to me, but they're pretty handy outside of the studio. The distortion boxes are also probably of limited use to me normally, but - and this is a huge reggaeton badonkin but - when you start including features like arp-to-matrix, suddenly EVERYthing has potential. Let's pray for a speedy (and speedily bug-fixed) release! Go team! :)
