Sysex transfer using usb?

just curious if this is possible or do I need to hook up a midi cable from my
virus TI to my soundcard? In cubases sx 3.1, when I launch the TI interface I get an midi output called Virus TI, but there is no corresponding Virus TI for a midi input, the only inputs I have for the TI or Virus TI Midi and Virus TI synth. I have tried both of those as the input, while using the Virus TI port for the output but have been unsuccessful in doing a sysex transfer. Essentially I would like to save the tweaked patch(es) with each song I create. I know that I should just be able to save the song in cubase and the tweaked patches should be saved, but if you see my other post, that isn't happening at the moment. Here are my specs -

My specs - Windows XP SP2 | P4 3.0 | 2.0GB Ram | Sata Drives |
Echo Layla 24 | 3xUad-1 | Cubase SX 3.1 | Virus TI 1.06r2

The usb should work fine.

Sure you're not filtering sysex in SX?

Midi_Glider 13.11.2005 07:46 AM

Exactly.

Sysex filtering is active in Cubase as default. so you should probably check that out.

Best,
midi.

yeah I should have mentioned that I already made sure that sysex wasn't being filtered. So I guess my question is what should be selected as the input midi port for the channel to record the sysex data? I have two options, Virus TI midi and Virus TI Synth. I'm guessing the midi, but I don't see any indicators of sysex data being transferred to that track when I move any of the knobs on the TI.

Virus TI Synth as an input while running Virus VSTi plugin does send ARP notes, but I can't get it to send any controller data or sys ex dumps.

Maybe not yet fully integrated hey. Maybe the Virus TI (VSTi) will one day appear as a midi input.

As a side note Virus TI Synth as an output is nullified when you run Virus VSTi plugin, these sort of things make getting to know your TI that little bit more interesting.

thanks for that grs, I thought it was just me being a bonehead. With the virus c, it was easy as we could just choose the midi in port that the C was transmitting out on. With the TI, there is nothing in the in ports that is associated with the data coming in from the usb.

So ultimately in order to store the tweaked sound(s) within the song for future recall (minus just saving the song in cubase) - I suppose I will have to reconnect the midi out of the TI to the midi in on my card and do an old school sysex dump for each part. No biggie, just need to be confident that my tweaks are being saved.

exactly.

the virus ti synth port disables when you launch the virus control plug-in. this is intentional because once the virus control is instantiated you can send all midi data through the plug-in.
