Quote:

Envelope Generators:
Two new fully assignable one-shot EGs added for use as modulation sources.

Filterbank
Seven new filter effects added to the re-branded Filterbank (formerly called Freq. Shifter) alongside the previous Ring Mod, Freq. Shifter, Comb and Vowel filters.

These comprise of three new LP, BP and HP 'VariSlope' filters. Each allowing you to seamlessly morph from 2- through to 6-poles for gentler or steeper rolloffs respectively, offering additional control over the curve at the cutoff frequency itself, hence 'variable slope'...

.. and four additional new 1-, 2-, 4- and 6-pole 'XFade' (aka cross-fade) filters, each allowing you to seamless fade between low-pass through band-pass to high-pass filter modes.

OS v2 in short:
Quote:

Graintable synthesis and Formants.
Granular synthesis takes the existing wavetables and applies similar techniques to those used in some granular sampling and pitch-shifting algorithms, opening up a whole new world of possibilities. Each of the two main types: Grain Table and Formant Table are presented in both Simple and Complex formats.

Wavetable PWM Oscillator
Takes two instances of the same wavetable and phase-shifts them against each other to achieve an effect reminiscent of the traditional pulsewidth modulation of a pulse wave oscillator.

Additional Wavetables
27 additional new wavetables are included for OS v2. Selected to compliment the existing content and to exploit the characteristics of the new oscillator modes, flavours include filter-like sweeps, formant morphs, harmonic inter-play, Fibonacci sequences and more.

Section Locking
Locks aspects of one patch for use on (an)other patch(es). Enables Virus Control user to decide which aspect of a given sound is changed when browsing through patches. For example, retaining a delay (effects) pattern whilst browsing through other patches, or similar.

Inactive Parameters
The Virus Control plug-in now shows inactive parameters in a semi translucent fashion, as opposed to not including them at all (in previous versions), increasing the user's overview dramatically.

Patch Complexity Indicator
Playmode on the Virus TI hardware contains a new icon indicating the complexity of the current patch, analysing the available polyphony at your disposal. Similar to the battery status icon on a mobile phone, the icon shows between one and five bars where one bar stands for a rather "cheap" sound and five for a pretty "expensive" one.

Search By Category
With version 2.0 the Virus Control plug-in allows you to search for specific sounds by filtering for a patch category.

Two new ROM banks
In addition to the 17 ROM banks, OS v2.0 features two new ones by Matt Stolley and Matt Picone. Stolley’s "10 Dirty years" bank will probably get us intro trouble, either for his tendency of choosing explicit patch names or for the darkness of his latest breaks, electro and d'n'b bank. Assuming that you’re 18 years or older we suggest that you point your TI to bank ROM-R but only on mentally-stable days.

Matt Picone’s latest submission in contrast is rather bright and a welcome addition to the players among us. The new bank features versatile live patches, beautiful ambient beds and arpeggiators. Nevertheless there is a couple of sounds you shouldn’t use at a family dinner.

Virus TI Atomizer software announced for Spring 2008.

"Access Music shows a technology preview of Atomizer on the winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California.

"Atomizer allows you slice and dice audio in realtime using a MIDI keyboard. Stutter effects were made famous by artists including Aphex Twin, Trentemoeller, Squarepusher, BT and many others.

"In order to create those effects they either had to chop audio regions by hand or use semi-automatic plug-ins (which don't necessarily give you a great deal of control since they are intended to create random results). Atomizer works in a totally different way — once sync'ed to tempo you can play those slices in realtime, so you can virtually chop up your singer's voice while he's performing or add unique effects to your DJ set.

"You can record the slicing process into your sequencer and edit it later along with the rest of your song. You can remix in realtime as well, with the modulation wheel becoming an intelligent cross-fader, while the pitch-wheel lets you change the pitch by approximately 4 octaves. And there are tons of effects including sample rate and bit rate reduction algorithms which, again, can be used in realtime and become a part of your performance."

"Atomizer will be available free of change to all Virus TI users as a free software update. "

Hi Timo - I was wondering where that patch "Plasmatron" shown in the image you posted comes from? Any ideas? I can't find it in my library nor is it in the Factory ROM backups for the TI|2... I have an '08 TI Mk1 Keyboard.
I'd be interested to see the rest of the RAM presets from the TI|2!

Unfortunately not. It is featured in all the TI|2 photos, but doesn't have the signature's initials shown, so am unsure who created it.

By the way, the TI|1 = TI|2 at this point in time, so everything the TI|2 can do, the TI|1 can do also. In other words, any patches for the TI|2 are fully supported by the TI|1, and will sound identical.

I think I recall someone mentioning there were ~36 patches for OS v3 showcasing the new features, but am unsure where they can be found.

That was me, they were installed when the new OS was installed.

They showed up straight in viruscontrol's public library for me.

The 36 new patches are in the TI|2 OS3 patches in the Public Library. I had to look carefully to spot it
