Juho L's synthprogramming tutorial

Few people have asked me a some kind of tutorial about synth programming. Also someone should do something to the endless stream of really basic questions that get asked over and over again.

So I decided to start to make one. So now I'd like to know what kind of tutorial would you guys like?

The features planned at this point:

1. First chapter only about basic functions of a synth and how different parameters affect the sound. Included are intuitive graphical diagrams and mp3 examples.

2. Basic sound programming. Basses, pads, synth strings, etc. Very much like on the tutorial on Access site, but a bit more deep and more additional tips-&-tricks. On this section I'd like to know what kind of special sound types you'd like there (hoovers, theremin, etc).

3. The final part is a small test section in which you get gradually more challenging copy-the-sound excercises. I think this section is the most powerful part of the whole tutorial.

The goal would be that after going through the tutorial the "student" would be selfsufficent to study further without any additional need of help.

That is a nobel enterprise Juho. Bloody time-consuming too! I'm pretty much right this end for programming, but it will be nice to have a page to point people to.

With all this spare time, I guess you still don't have any new gear?

clasic analog bass
set to monomode with legato and some minor portamento.
set punch to around 60
two saw oscilators
the master oscilator os set to 0 semitune
oscilator 2 set to -12 with just a bit of detune.
oscilator balance should be around 70-30.
for extra dirt add some noise oscilator but be aware that this might get in your way when mixing(usualy you dont need stuff that are in one spectrum area going to a second spectrum area aswell=bass is a low freq sound and should be kept there)

going to filter section
use two lowpass 4 pole filters with rarly closed filters
0 resonance
cutoffs are linked
cutoff 1 to around 20+-
same with cutoff 2
around 80-90 evenlope amount with A-0 D-40 S-5 R-127 settings
this is your basic.
to get some more lower end action use the analog boost, set to around 20-30 and add as much as you desire.

tomer always says:watch out of cliping and unwanted distortion.

That sounds fantastic Juho. I'd be well pleased to do a tutorial like that cause I found the one of the Access site kinda helpful but not nearly in depth enough.

when you said you were gonna write a tutorial i thought 'bravo!'

then i got to this...

First chapter
and thought - damn - i like the way you think! if you need a hand compiling stuff or writing certain parts i can lend a hand with acid leads, acid basses and things like that.
