How typical of M$. I am not suprised and M$ is wondering why people tend to use other software than theirs to do the task.

Whoa!!!!

That's bullshit!

I never use WMP to back-up/rip CDs because it sucks at doing so.

I use Exact Audio Copy as it ifree and creates perfect MP3s.

F*%k M$!!!

Also, isn't it impossible to uninstall WMP from a WinXP SP system?

It seems like a consumers only chance at self preservation is to disaccoiate all audio/video files from WMP and use something else.

What other players do the Infekted use?

Real Player?

WinAmp?

Do tell!

I've not used WMP for literally many years.

I use Media Player Classic with a load of plugins for it (real alternative, quicktime alternative, etc.), although I use Winamp for standard MP3, Ogg, AAC, flac, ape, etc.

For ripping I use Nero, and I use Lame & RazorLame to encode.

you scum! :)

I use foobar2000, the best music player in the world bar none....

The only downside is that you have to invest a fair amount of time getting it up and running and looking how you want. Well worth it though due to the amount of customisation and the organisational tools it gives you for a large music collection.

One of the main reasons I like Winamp and Media Player Classic is that they take literally no loading time. I couldn't stand iTunes as it took like 5-10 secs to load up the darn iTunes application every time I clicked on a tune within windows explorer. I couldn't be doing with faffing around making it look nice as I'd rather have a small application instead, visually, so everything's catalogued nicely on my HD to enable me to select a tune or playlist to play from within windows explorer.

i use winamp for music and wmp for video though

By my understanding you just have to have it installed on your system for the DRM portion to create trouble. If this DRM ball clamp technology is just simply hidden (to some degree) within an update, us guys who use our machines for mainly music may be in trouble.

I can just imagine having to prove that mixdowns of my own tracks (or friends) are really allowed to be on my system, and that I may need to copy them. My DAW isn't even online for fuck's sake!!!
