USB virus - Room for everything?

Hi again:)

So im wondering about using multiple virus "synths" (in lack of a better word) simultaneously with usb as the only way of getting the sound into my DAW.

On a recent project i have 6 different synths loaded up and playing. What im experiencing though is that some of them have a tendency to disappear when all of them are playing. Its like its not enough room for so many synths, and hence the virus is squeezing some out. Does the USB mode have limits to what it can do? I mean, the VST thing has 16 different "synth channels"... eq´ed correctly can it run that many sounds through the usb at the same time? And if so, is there any settings to control this?

My experience with a first gen desktop virus is that after 3-4 patches in a multi you start to hear dropped notes & unwanted audio artifacts & even the old demo session only runs around 8 relatively simple patches. The TI2 is slightly more powerful but I seriously doubt it could run all 16 parts at once without it sounding crap.

My brief experience with the TI2 was that the disappearance of sound described in the OP would more likely be caused by DSP limitations, i.e. could happen on a multi-patch or even on complex singles depending on how many system resources being used. The USB throughput could be limiting too, but I think the symptoms would be different if that's the case (latency issues rather than loss of individual sounds).

durr : are you sure this is a USB issue? If you set up the 6 synths, and just play the Virus through headphones is the problem still present?

oh really. i was afraid of that. Its too bad though, it makes one of the reasons for getting the TI not so valid anymore. I wanted to be able to go back and tweak the sounds in the end of the track-making process, if i need to bounce each synth for every 4 sound it can be a pain.. Let me know if you find any fixes...:)

this was a reply for the first post.. didnt see the second:)

Ill give it a try and see what happens.. ill let you know in a bit

MBTC: how would you set up 6 synth and run them simultaneously through the headphone? I tried doing that using logic as controller, however, if i set the virus as output soundcard, i think the sounds goes into the daw and then back again to the virus and out. So the problem still exist.

How can i load 6 synths on the virus without using the vst thing/daw?

Ouch, I wish I had one (I currently do not) and could explain this. I assume you're simply talking about 6 patches across 6 separate MIDI channels, right? It should be do-able straight from the front panel even if a little menu diving is needed. Maybe someone else can chime in with steps to accomplish?

Just set up a multi, its all in the manual & pretty basic stuff.
