Virus B [broke - fixed - then broke again - now fixed again]

My Virus B (Desktop) appears to be Intializing itself when I switch
on.
It doesn't happen every time though.

"OS4.8 etc..." comes up on the screen then "Access virus b" as normal
but then - "Initialize Global Memory?" comes up...
....which then switches immediately to -
"Load Bank A with Factory Sounds?"
This message flashes alternatively with -
"YES: -->[SINGLE]
NO: ANY OTHER KEY"
If I press any key other than SINGLE, this message then flashes up -
"No....keeping old sounds"

But then "Load Bank B with Factory Sounds?" comes up with the same
messages as above following after.

then the same thing again with Multi Bank.

After this, "Initializing Edit Buffers" comes up before finally going
to the normal screen.
Except now all the programs of A, B and Multi banks have random
garbled names and all the sounds have been wiped.
I can't even seem to program any sound into them.
Although I can copy programs from banks C to H into the A & B banks.
Banks C to H are unaffected.

Anyone got any idea what's happening?
I haven't had this Virus that long.
maybe I accidently set something wrong.

I've tried a Reset...(hold down the LFO1 [Shape] button and switch
on) which I believe is the right procedure.

I've seen this on the Yahoo site. Someone said it was a RAM battery or something like that. contact access support.

Are you the same person from the Yahoo groups?

Yes that was me too.
I thought I'd post here too to see if someone on this forum had experienced this problem.

he he,
congratulations
I've been posting using this name for a couple of years on various music forums and you're the first person to recognise where it comes from.

I've already e-mailed Access....just waiting for a response.

I may be stating the obvious, but have you tried to completely reload the OS - including all pathces - into your Virus? My B was sick about a month back, it was acting weird as well (not as weird as yours, but weird!). Anyway, I reload the OS and patches, and magically all was fine. Good luck!

Update...

After getting no useful information from Access support, I decided to take my Virus B to Turnkey (The UK's main Access distributor and a big retailer familiar to most over here).
This was on 21 August.
They send all Viruses to Germany to be repaired....no, not to Access themselves, but to some guy who Turnkey say is the only person who fixes them.

Turnkey originally said it would take about 2-3 weeks.

Today, 11 weeks later I am finally going to pick it up.
Obviously, during this time I have called and visited their service department several times but all they ever said was......
"we have to send them to Germany.............It's only one guy who fixes them...........we can't speak to him, he's never there"

The good news though, is that despite the fact that my Virus B was bought used and is obviously out of warranty, I am only being charged for the shipping cost to Germany.
Nothing for the repair.... :?

Apparently, Turnkey can't even tell me what was wrong with it as the repair notes are all in German!!!

Oh well, just thought this might be of interest to anyone else in the UK who's Virus ever needs repairing.
