could anybody explain me how to use sidechain in Cubase SX 2 with waves C1 compressor plugin?

in Logic its quite clear... just select a trigger-track from sidechain menu in Logic's comp plugin window. but in Cubase... i cant find out how to select a trigger:( is it possible?

Apparently, you can't sidechain in anyting but TDM
 
I was just at the Waves forum a second ago and found this tidbit:

I just bought the Gold Native bundle and just read that info.
Kind of a shame, isn't it? I kinda wish I'd known that before I took the plunge, but I'm sure it is still good software.

Side chaining is useful in 'ducking'.
For example, you have a bass guitar that hits the same time as a kick drum, let's say.
With side-chain compression, you can use the audio from the kick drum to trigger the compressor to suck down the bass guitar and lower the level of the bass guitar for the duration of the kick.

You can also use it creatively to de-ess vocals, hats, etc.
You can use sidechaining to trigger gates, etc, too.

Oh. So side chaining is just triggering compressor from other signal than which is compressed. That's new for me.

That sounds good to me. :)
Like I say, you can sidechain gates in Logic and have them activate other tracks by varying the threshold.

For example, if you want a distorted guitar chord held over two bars, just slap a sidechained noise gate to the hi-hat and let the hi hat activate the audio track containing the guitar and you have a syncopated guitar track from a basic strummed guitar chord.

Cool, eh?
