Where does the groove come from?
 

About two hours ago I came from Jaco Pastorius tribute gig. That band was awesome! Bloody good players and the music just grooved insanely. It got me wondering that where does that groove come from? You really can't hear that kind of thing on electronic music (it's even rare on any kind of recording). Does the groove come from seamless drum/bass co-operation or is it just tiny bits of skill on the notes played?

If someone gains a skill to get that kind of groove on electronic music, he/she will be rich and legendary.

I never quantize my rythm and bass for this very reason. Although I may not have a great natural groove, I prefer the sound i get with no quantizing.

I think your spot on Hollowcell. These days the majority of stuff you here has been sequenced in some way whether you are using midi or audio whether you have a PC or hardware sequencer. And just by the very nature of how you work with these tools you usually can't help but have everything being perfectly timed(well almost) and I guess that is what most peoples goal is when they are producing a track on their PC or whatever.
