going to change my computer... any advice?
 

so

i was thinking AMD or Intel ? until now i used only Intel chipsets but some friends told me that AMD are far better and faster in audio and video... the only point is that some games do work only on Intel platforms, can't remember them but i know i read it somewhere....
so any AMD users can help me plz? which chipset are you using? is it really faster?

Its all about how much money you want to spend...now adays AMD and Intel are both fairly closely priced...But I dont think that there is much difference in speed that you will actually notice when working...

As for games not working i highly doubt it...maybe are faster with one brand versus the other, which you can later reference the above statement

well i am quite sure there is a difference between the two and AMD is (at least) a little faster than Intel. A lot of people told me about that but they are more into 3D modeling and designing rather than audio, that 's why i'd like ot have daw-oriented users' opinions.
As far as the games go, unfortunatly i don't remember which one exactly i read about, but may be it was about an older chipset, may be the new games generation work on both perfectly, anyway... i didn't make my decision yet...

my point is not that they are the exact same speed...but there is more factors involved then just the cpu speed...the ram, harddrive, mobo, graphix card, soundcard...they all together will affect the computer speed...and i do not believe running your computer (actually using it) you will notice a difference...I have bought AMD and Intel...its like coke or pepsi...one is not better then the other just slightly different

I have always bought Intel. I believe them to run a bit cooler than AMD chips - the ones I have bought anyway.

I agree with Blank though - you can't really go wrong with either. As long as you buy the correct components that work well together you should be happy.

Of course the main bottleneck in any system is the speed of the front-side buss, so try get yourself the fastest you can afford - baring in mind that you will need RAM to match it otherwise you will get a bottleneck going in and out of the memory - I bought a ASUS mobo recently with an 800MHz so that I can expand the memory - at the time the fastest affordable memory was 400MHz.

I've always had AMD processors and they're fine. make sure your unit has plenty of PCI slots for all those lovely UAD and Powercore cards you're going to put in it. Also, USB ports on the front of the tower is a big help and make sure you get a few of them.

The chipset is more important than the processor. Intel make the most stable, reliable and compatible ones.

Go Intel.

Sure its more expensive, and not exactly the quickest nowadays, but you're using your computer for work, not playing games and doing silly stuff, aren't you?
